The John Gosden team back for defending the Yorkshire Cup with Arctic Cosmos this time

The Group 2 Sportingbet Yorkshire Cup (British Champions Series) will be hosted by York over a mile and six furlongs on Friday, 18th May. The race has attracted a remarkably talented line-up of eight runners with the prize money for the winner
set at £79,394.
The most successful jockey for the race ever since 1991, is the Godolphin team’s representative, Frankie Dettori. He won the Yorkshire Cup three times after settling the race with Luca Cumani trained Arzanni in 1991.
This time around he is taking his chances with the five-year-old bay mare, Be Fabulous, who has to race the seasonal debut and post a straight fourth win for the Godolphin. She has succeeded in the final three ventures of the previous season and there cannot
be a better start for the new season than winning the Cup.
"She is in really good form at home and Frankie [Dettori] rides her and we hope she can run a really good race. She will improve for the run, but we want to find out if she is good enough to run in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot”, said the Emirati handler.
A further promising entry for the race is Arctic Cosmos, North Light’s five-year-old bay horse out of mare, Fifth Avenue Doll. He started off the season by being the 5/4 favourite winner of the William Hill App-Download Today! Magnolia Stakes on 31st
March at Kempton over a mile and two furlongs.
Riding with William Buick, the winner held the closest rival, Tinshu, away by six lengths. Concluding the race third was Hurricane Higgins.
The second start of the season was not as lucky as the seasonal debut. Arctic Cosmos finished last on the field of five in the Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Stakes on 21st April at Newbury over a mile and four furlongs.
The 6/4 favourite winner of the race was Harris Tweed coupled with Liam Jones, as the two led the runner up of the race, Allied Powers, by five lengths.
The landmark achievement for the five-year-old is the victory in the Group 1 Ladbrokes St Leger Stakes on 11th September, 2011 at Doncaster over a mile and six and a half furlong.
He won the race from Midas Touch by 1 ¾ lengths with William Buick onboard.
The evening’s favourite, Rewilding, ended sixth on the field of ten.
John Gosden and William Buick are back to defend the title but this time they are saddling Arctic Cosmos instead of the 2011 Yorkshire Cup winner, Duncan.
