Question:

The John Smalley Information You've Been Waiting For :-D?

I have received so many e-mails regarding my John Smalley, in fact, I think it got as far as the White House. Yesterday, I saw reporters asking Vice President d**k Cheney about his ancestry, although I did not hear the question. His response was that they had more than 2 Cheneys' in their family tree and he said something along the lines of "like a bunch from West Virginia", jokingly. Being a hillbilly myself, I understood this to be a self-deprecating remark and that it has nothing to do with WV, the same could be said about most any state. But, I digress... Sorry I can't post my John Smalley picture, but I'll give you the data that I do have. I'll probably have to keep adding on as I'm only given so many words to type at a time, as you know. So, here we go!

John Smalley, Sr. was born 1615 in Bideford, County Devonshire, England and died on July 30, 1692 in Piscattaway, Middlesex County, New Jersey, USA. He married Ann Walden on November 29, 1638 in Plymouth, MASS.

  1. You really didn't ask a question and one of the police on this board might report you.

However, you made an astute observation about people's view of others.  Of the original Jamestown Virginia settlers only 5 did not have a coat of arms including members of the crew.  I have been told only one that came over on the Mayflower had a coat of arms.  Now, the problem with those gentlemen that went to Jamestown, apparently they thought that once they landed someone would be there to provide them with tea and biscuits and they landed during the little ice age and they weren't as adaptable to hard work and hardships that those that went to Plymouth Rock. They had to be threatened, "work or starve."
