The Keeneland Under Tack Show had lightning fast synthetics ahead of the juvenile sale
The Keeneland juvenile is expected to go underway on 9 April, 2012, and there will be amassive number of juvenile’s cataloged for this auction, a total of 161, and for that an under tack show took place over the Keeneland’s synthetic surface on 5 April where
the 2-year-old colts worked in front of a crowd before the auction.
According to the California based bloodstock agent, Bob Feld, the track played pretty well, and that the synthetic Polytrack surface was lightning fast.
“When it rains and when it’s cold, a synthetic surface does speed up and tighten up,” Feld explained. “I figured coming in here today there would be faster times than expected.”
It was so fast that seven of the horses, who ran for about an eighth of a mile covered the distance in a time of 9 4/5 seconds. The under tack show will help these colts raise up their value before the Central Kentucky company sale for 2-year-olds in training.
It helped the horses perform better workouts on a track that played fair all day, and because of that the horses turned in some head turning sessions.
“I think the track looks great; this is about as good as I’ve ever seen it,” said trainer Mark Casse. “One of the reasons these horses are training really well and working so good is because there are a lot of talented horses. There are a lot of good pedigrees
in the sale’s catalog.”
The son of Lemon Drop Kid, out of mare Kreisleriana, was the first one to clock a time of 9 4/5 seconds going an eighth of a mile, and the 2-year-old turned in his work as the ninth runner of the day.
There were works at a quarter mile as well, and the Speightstown colt took the cake there when he turned in a lightning fast work of a quarter mile in just 20 2/5 seconds.
Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland’s director of sales was pleased with the outcome of the under tack show, and most importantly how the track played out through the day, which ultimately helped the 2-year-olds in training to show how good they are to the buyers
who will be present in the auction on 9 April.
