The Kentucky bred Caleb’s Posse’s retirement announced after a terrific career
Trained by Donnie Von Hemel, Caleb’s Posse, was the one who landed an immense victory in the Grade 1 King Bishop Stakes at Saratoga on 27th August, 2011, where with the help of jockey Rajiv Maragh, he briskly covered the seven
furlong race and came out on top.
The son of Posse completed the race in 1 minute and 21.59 seconds, while the Todd Pletcher trained, Uncle Mo finished as a runner-up and the third place was taken by the Steven Asmussen trained, Justin Phillip.
Mounted by jockey John Velazquez, Uncle Mo managed to keep the rest of the competition at bay except for Caleb’s Posse, who caught him in the final stages of the race and won by a narrow margin of a nose.
Uncle Mo sat in fourth place as the pace of the race was set by Runflatout, followed by Flashpoint, and Poseidon's Warrior in second and third, who completed the first quarter of a mile in 22.23 seconds.
Uncle Mo found a gap and took the lead after the eighth pole.
At this point, it was Caleb’s Posse who was picking up his pace and gaining ground. He was in contention with Uncle Mo in the last hundred yards, and edged past his adversary whisker before the wire.
Pletcher’s charge came back to the track after a lay-off of four months and gave it his all.
Foaled by Slewacide mare Abbey's Missy, the sophomore’s victory was phenomenal. His sophomore campaign was a success, as he went on to finish third in the Grade 2 Indiana Derby, won the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.
In 2012, he lost the winning fervour as he consecutively claimed three finishes as a runner-up in the Grade 3 Tom Fool Stakes, Grade 1 Carter Handicap and the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap.
The runner was retired after the Metropolitan Handicap as he sustained an injury. Owners, Everett Dobson and Don McNeill, confirmed this and stated:
"We discovered a non-displaced fragment in his left knee after the Met Mile."
It was further stated:
“He has proven his brilliance on the track, and now we want to give him a chance to pass on that brilliance in the breeding shed."
