Does the Kgb and Russia support Islamic terrorism?

I read in a article that the Russians had caught Al-Qeda #2 Ayman al-Zawari then let him go.

Why didn't they hand him over to us?

Why would / should the Russians hand over someone to the US (I am assuming you are an American). The Russian Federation does not have an extradition treaty with the US and the US has never sought one with Russia.

As BK pointed out above, the Russians have been fighting Islamic extremists in Chechnya much longer than the US has been fighting them. Russia was also in Afghanistan fighting extremists long before the Americans. Interestingly, the US put the Taliban in power and the CIA funded the pre-cursor to Al Queda. So NO, Russia does not support islamic extremists.

Whisky: Maybe the Russians feel threatened because the US is putting large bases and missile defense systems in neighboring countries. Maybe the Iranians want a nuclear capability because the most hostile country (the US) is sitting on the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons.

Because the USA is still their enemy number one.

Yap, that's true. Even the cold war is over but Russians (even who governs) are so "brainwashed" so they can't see bigger threats than USA and other western world. My parents lived in occupied territory by Soviet union, and as they say, government everyday was spreading such information that USA is preparing war with  "glorious motherland"and can start nuclear of assault operation everyday. And for 50 years all newspapers, radio, TV was saying the same thing - so after that how you can't believe that USA is not your enemy (It is a little bit different with occupied territories, because people there was actually waiting (at least for first 15 after WWII) when USA will attack Soviet union and frees occupied nations, but...)

They support everybody who is threat to the USA even if this kind of action do harm for themselves. For example Iran - why do they need do build there nuclear reactor, air defense system for it? Because, our enemy's  enemy is our friend. And this is going to be for many many years.
