The Kings will remain in Sacramento for another season: NBA Update
The Kings’ management have announced that they will be staying in Sacramento City for another season. The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Kings’ management have given a remarkable opportunity to all those stake holders who were not pleased
for the Kings’ relocation to Anaheim City.
It was confirmed in an official media statement by the Maloof Sports and entertainment, “Out of respect to Kings fans and the regional business community, we have decided to remain in Sacramento for the 2011-12 season. The fans’ spirit and energy, specifically
our season ticket holders, has been remarkable and we are truly thankful for their loyalty. We also are greatly appreciative of the support from our corporate sponsors as well as other local businesses that have come forward in recent weeks.”
More-importantly, this will be a bigger challenge for the Sacramento's Mayor Kevin Johnson to come up with an excellent financial plan for his sports loving city and build a suitable new arena for the Kings.
Mayor Johnson was also looked overjoyed on this decision when he said, “This is one of the proudest moments of my life because the community believed when no one else did, we kept believing. And if you believe, anything is possible.”
Though Johnson is very happy regarding his aspirations for the Kings as they are staying in Sacramento for the season 2011-2012, but the Kings’ owners Maloof Brothers and the NBA commissioner David Stern have also made it clear to the Sacramento establishment
that if they are not able to construct a new arena, the Kings will leave after the next season.
The Kings currently play at Power Balance Pavilion which has certainly given the Maloof brothers a second thought to relocate from their current city Sacramento to Anaheim. The Power Balance Pavilion is deteriorated and in very poor condition. It also provoked
the franchise’s owners to move their team to a better place where the Kings will train and play in a better environment.
Despite of the fact, Joe and Gavin Maloof tried their level best to secure a decent financial package for building a new arena for the Kings, but failed in their effort to raise enough funds. The very next movement they decided to move towards Anaheim in
Anaheim Arena. The Anaheim arena known as Honda Centre was the best option for the Maloof brothers as its state of the art luxury suits and well furnished latest facilities will provide an extra edge to the Kings’ players and their many officials.
Now the Kings have decided to stay in Sacramento for another NBA season, no doubt the Sacramento’s Mayor Kevin Johnson played his essential role to overturn this relocation decision. Johnson showed his commitment to the city as he raised almost US$10 million
sponsorship rights in favour of building a new arena for the Kings in Sacramento. The Sacramento authorities are preparing hard for completing the feasibility report for the new arena and seemed much optimistic to retain the Kings in Sacramento in coming years.
