The Korean Grand Prix might not happen
The organisers of the Korean Grand Prix announced that the FIA would conduct the final inspection of the Korean International Circuit on October 11 - a mere 13 days before the start of the race. As many would agree, this is not how Formula 1 works.
According to FIA rules and regulations, officials are advised to inspect the track at least 60 days before the Grand Prix takes place. The FIA has been quite unprofessional regarding this matter as the track is currently being constructed and evaluated under
a tight schedule and there are doubts that it might not be completed in time before the race is suppose to take place.
A series of official inspections were postponed due to local officials coming up with a plethora of excuses. If the Korean Grand Prix does not take place, many teams will not be happy and they might even take the FIA to court for such an unprofessional behaviour.
Most teams have already planned their strategies for the coming four final races and if one of it is taken out, the top running teams, especially McLaren and Ferrari, will not be happy with the move. It might even risk or affect their hopes of winning the
2010 championships. The race will massively affect the excitement factor in this season. Fans are expecting some tough racing in the coming four races. The Korean crowd will be disappointed and FIA will have to face many problems as tickets have already been
sold. Fans are expecting a full fledge proper Formula 1 Grand Prix but will they? Even if the controversial grand prix gets the green light, the FIA will still have to deal with many problems as the circuit is in a remote location and arranging a Formula 1
grand prix is not a child’s game.
“It's quite dangerous what we've done actually but it's a case of 'do we cancel the race or not?' They say it's all going to be OK, so we hope they are right”, claimed a perturbed FIA CEO Bernie Ecclestone when asked to explain about such a careless attitude.
This is not how Bernie or the FIA works and this will affect the image Formula 1 since the sport has an organized image. Some of the teams might want the Korean Grand Prix postponed or even cancelled. However, since Formula 1 has announced that the Korean
GP will take place, it will be difficult for the FIA to explain if it does not materialise on October, the 11th.
