The Korean arena ready to embrace Formula One gladiator
The 2010 Formula One caravan is ready to enter a new arena now. The top five gladiators are fiercer then they had been ever before ready to backlash anyone who comes in their way.
The newly-built Korean International Circuit is to hold its debut race this season. As the cars now move ahead for the seventeenth round of the calendar, the tug of the top five racers becomes tenser.
The unfamiliar territory of South Korea marks one of the most important rounds of the season as this is thought to be the decisive race for the 2010 Championship.
As the drivers enter this third-last round, the Red Bull driver Mark Webber currently stands at the top of the Drivers’ Championship with a lead of 14-point followed by the Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard stands at second place in the charts
with 206 points, equal to the other Red bull driver, Sebastian Vettel who occupies third slot.
On the other hand, the two McLaren men Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button have taken fourth and fifth places respectively in the charts. Though their chances have not died completely yet the battle is now a tough one for them. In the forthcoming race, one
of the two derivers needs victory in order to keep the hopes of the team alive.
At this stage of the season when the drivers are battling hard for every single point one of the biggest troubles for everyone is the unfamiliarity with the track. All the teams are busy making calculations and analysis of the Yeongam circuit to learn it
as much as possible before the Sunday race.
This race has undergone much uncertainty in the past few months, however only 14 days ahead of the final race day the final approval was given to the track as FIA inspected it last Monday. The construction work was completed earlier but the current inspection
majorly tested the surface of the track along with the pit facilities. Though the inspection cleared these basics but several other things like fan facilities and the infrastructure surrounding the track is yet to be done.
Now, as the drivers and the teams get ready to leave for Korea, all the top five drivers believe that this race would decide their fate for the season.
The McLaren driver while talking to the press said, "It (the track) will reward commitment. As long as the track surface is nice and grippy, we're set for an enjoyable first race in Korea. We can have a positive race. While recent results haven't necessarily
shown it, we've had a strong car. Now I'm hoping to get the chance to prove it on track."
Hamilton has had very little luck in the past few races. The Singapore and Japanese Grand Prix dropped the racer to fourth place in the tally from second. While earlier this year he has stayed at the apex for a number of months.
Still, McLaren’s team Principal Martin Whitmarsh talked about his aspirations from the next round saying that the team is adamant to keep fighting until the very last race. He added that both the team drivers have the advantage of winning champions earlier
which makes them more immune to the stress and pressure that this part of the season offers.
Moreover, Webber talked to the media earlier this week saying that he is only aiming for victories now as there are only 75 points to play for this season. Despite of his current lead in the charts he believes that race win is the only thing that would help
him now.
