The Lake Course at the Olympic Club threatens Bubba Watson
Bubba Watson, the natural hitter of the ball, looks a little worried prior to the start of the US Open, at the Olympic Club, because of the difficulty offered by one of the toughest courses around the world, the Lake Course, during the second major event
of the year.
Watson is currently listed among the hot favourites for a win in the event this year because of his Masters Tournament victory.
Yet, he himself admitted that he will need some magical shots in order to bag another major title in San Francisco.
He is known as one of the longest drivers of the ball on the PGA Tour. However, he believes that it would not be enough, especially when there are narrow fairways and firm greens.
"There's some golf tournaments you hit more fairways, there's some golf tournaments you don't hit many fairways," he told a news conference, on Tuesday. "Obviously this week everybody is going to have trouble hitting fairways and out of the rough".
"I think with my length, with my so-called strength I can hit irons out of the rough that people can't hit as far. If I can just putt," he added. "If it comes down to putting and chipping, the short game is the key around this course".
According to him, every hole at the Lake Course is difficult and the players will need high level of concentration while making each shot.
By and large, he does not like the overall outlook of the course and not happy with the conditions too. He said that the course can force him to sign a score up to 80.
He also told that he may change his opinions about the course if he succeeds in recording a win at the end of the week.
While making the start to the 2012 golf season campaign, he set the aim of participating in each of the four major events. However, the plans changed after he recorded a win in the Masters.
He now wishes not only to participate but win as many major titles as he can. He is grouped with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson for the opening two rounds.
