The Last Derby pulls out of Bet365 Gold Cup: Horse Racing news
The horse racing season ahead seems very exciting. The racing industry has planned and scheduled some very interesting and prestigious racing events for the remainder of the 2011 season. What makes these races particularly intriguing is the fact that they
feature some of the best racehorses from across the United Kingdom.
One of the most anticipated and flaunted upcoming events is the Bet365 Gold Cup. It has recently been revealed that the champion racehorse, The Last Derby - who previously booked for the race - will not be contending this meeting. His connections made the
decision after his price for this race was cut to half its value (16-1).
As a result of this reduction, his trainer and owner thought it was better that the racehorse should go on to participate in the Ladbrokes Irish Grand National event instead of the Gold Cup.
The seven-year-old champion colt trains under the care of famed trainer Eoin Griffin. According to reports, the racehorse is currently in Ireland and after he was ruled out of the Gold Cup, it is likely that he will be staying there and not going to Sandown.
It has also been revealed that the racehorse will be contending the Monday meeting, although he was formerly scheduled to travel to Sandown on Saturday.
When the trainer of the colt was approached by reporters to inquire about the targets of The Last Derby, he was reported as saying, “We’re number 25 in the list and that means The Last Derby will run in the Irish National and not at Sandown.”
On the other hand, another racehorse to have been ruled out of the Sandown meeting is the top weight participant, Siegemaster. According to Dessie Hughes, the champion will not be participating in the Sandown meeting because the forecast for the going has
been reported to be quick ground, which is not enjoyed by the racehorse and could well effect his performance. Siegemaster was going to carry a weight of 11st 12lb in the Gold Cup.
