The Last of Us being developed by studio behind Uncharted series, Naughty Dog
The latest trailer for the upcoming Sony PlayStation 3 exclusive, The Last of Us, has not only shared what the premise for the game is but also revealed that the studio behind the Uncharted series, Naughty Dog, are at the helm and are developing the game.
Sony began teasing fans of a “PlayStation 3 exclusive that you won’t believe”, with two trailers that gave little and everything away. The first trailer showed the world in chaos with riots and anarchy in the streets while the second trailer showed close
ups of ants who had been taken over by a fungus, which basically turned them into zombies.
Many put the two together and came to the rather obvious end of the world, post apocalyptic theme, yet even then no one was sure which genre the game would fall under.
It was not long after that gamers found a newspaper in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception with a headline that followed the theme of the two trailers and gave rise to reports that Naughty Dog could very well be developing the game.
All became that much clearer with the game’s trailer that aired during the VGAs (Video Game Awards) which showed the two protagonists and the zombie-like creatures gamers will be up against.
An official statement from Naughty Dog themselves read, “The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven tale about a modern plague decimating mankind.”
The words genre defining, survival and action should be made notes of as Naughty Dog managed to do that when they came out with the Uncharted series and one can expect them to repeat that feat.
The statement continued, “Nature encroaches upon civilization, forcing remaining survivors to kill for food, weapons and whatever they can find.”
As for the two characters, Naughty Dog introduced the male character with the rough beard as Joel and the second younger female character as Ellie.
“Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.”
The cinematic trailer, itself which was taken directly from a PlayStation 3 console, had the feel of having a high production value and if it is anything like the Uncharted series in terms of providing a cinematic experience and engaging storyline, one can
be sure that the game is going to be a huge success.
No release date has been given for the game and many are still speculating as to when gamers will get their hands on ‘The Last of Us’.
