Naughty Dog and Sony confirm that the eagerly anticipated post-apocalyptic action/adventure/survival title will be out next year.
When gamers think of the PlayStation 3 console the first name that pops into everyone’s head is the Uncharted series, developed by Naughty Dog. The game raised the bar in terms of production values, storytelling, visuals and everything that is associated
with a video game.
Many termed Uncharted 2 and 3 as playing a movie, a trend that the rest of the industry has caught on to as the likes of Tomb Raider and Hitman seem to have adopted a similar approach.
Naughty Dog is now focusing on another project as they take a break from the Uncharted series with their post-apocalyptic survival-adventure title, The Last of Us. A live demo of the game was showcase during Sony’s E3 Press Conference, which absolutely blew
everyone away with its gritty, visceral feel and jaw dropping visuals.
There were moments where the audience gasped simultaneously and the ending, as abrupt as it was, really struck home with everyone what they could expect in terms of the tone that the game had adopted.
However, Shuhei Yoshida, the President of Sony Worldwide Studios, explained that gamers would have to wait until next year before they could step into the shoes of Joel, the game’s unapologetic protagonist. “We are not ready to talk about 2013.” Said the
SWS boss, before proceeding to talk about 2013, “But some of the games we showed like God of War and The Last of Us are not coming out this year.”
The news comes after earlier reports that the game would be available, “late 2012 or early 2013”. It seems that the latter is more likely at this point in time and it only adds to the idea that the PlayStation 4 still has some way to go before its release.
Sony remained tightlipped on their next generation of consoles, however, they did concede that they aimed to be the best console in the market and not necessarily the first or the cheapest. It will be interesting to see when Sony announce and release their
next-gen home entertainment console and whether it can compete with the Xbox 720.
