The Last of Us teaser appears in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, is Naughty Dog developing the game?
It is all going a little bit crazy in the world of gaming as everyone seems to seeing signs of what to expect in Sony’s as yet unannounced exclusive, ‘the last of us’, as a few eagle-eyed gamers have spotted what appears to be a hint towards the exclusive
in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
The game happens to be the third instalment in Sony’s most critically acclaimed franchise and is developed by one of the leading studios in the industry today, Naughty Dog.
So one can expect that the levels of speculation and anticipation increased ten-fold when news broke that a newspaper, lying on top of a counter, in Uncharted 3 followed the theme of the two teaser trailers that were released on the ‘the last of us’ website.
Before going into divulging the hints found in Nathan Drake’s third adventure, a bit of background would help set the scene.
Two videos have been released on ‘the last of us’ website, with the game being touted by Sony as a ‘PlayStation exclusive you won’t believe’. The first video showed chaos in general with what some kind of infection going around and the world seemingly having
gone to h**l.
The second video gave some hint to the premise and concept as well as it showed close-ups of ants who had been taken over by a form of fungus. The fungus is not science fiction and exists in the real world.
What it does it take over an ant’s brain and makes it climb on to a high leaf where the ant then dies and the fungus grows and reproduces. It is basically puts its victim in a zombie like state.
Some analysts and experts are linking the trailers to perhaps being a ruse for Resident Evil 6, however, that seems unlikely especially after seeing how Capcom have gone multiplatform with the previous Resident Evil 5.
Moving back on to the teaser in Uncharted 3, where Drake finds the newspaper in one of the game’s earlier levels. The headline reads, “Scientists are still struggling to understand deadly fungus”.
One can immediately connect the dots to the second trailer, later on one can also see a calendar on the wall with the date 31t October marked. Whether that is a coincidence or a release date for the game is anyone’s guess, but it does get one wondering.
Could Naughty Dog be developing ‘the last of us’? or are all the Sony first-party studios in on the act somehow?
All in all, the viral marketing Sony is using for the game seems to be working, yet gamers will only get the real picture of what exactly the publisher is up to when they make an announcement on Saturday at the VGA awards.
