The Legg Mason Tennis Classic 2010: Andy Roddick and John Isner crash out
The American tennis ace, Andy Roddick was thrashed out by the French tennis professional Gilles Simon, a 33rd ranked player in the Legg Mason tennis Classic championship on Thursday. Gilles won the match in a time period of one hour and nine minutes in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-3, 6-3.
As far as Roddick’s game is concerned, he failed to serve with his customary precision. His ground strokes were also not that effective. Moreover, the foot work of the American was not up to the mark. In short, the crowds could not experience the real Andy Roddick in his battle as he was not at his best.
It was Gilles's first success over Andy Roddick after a total of three attempts.
"In my opinion, Roddick couldn’t manage to smash winners in today’s match as the surface wasn’t that quick and I was actually moving pretty well”, said Simon after his victory over the American.
"Both of us were hitting every point from the baseline. It really supported me and I just noticed that when he was actually looking for a match point, I played more consistently and when he went for aggressive style of game, he committed a couple of mistakes that later on did the trick for me”, he added.
With this loss, Roddick is out of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic championship, however the question now is that will he be able to come back to his top form prior to the United States Open championship which will start from the end of this month?
In another match, the twenty five years old young American player John Isner was hammered down by the Belgian tennis ace Xavier Malisse on Thursday. Malisse won the match in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5). As a result of this victory, the Belgian professional tennis player has confirmed his spot in the quarterfinal round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic championship.
After the match, Isner while commenting on his defeat said that, he did not play well enough. Fernando Verdasco in his match on Thursday also knocked down a qualifier from the United States of America, Ryan Sweeting in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 7-5.
On the other hand, the top seeded player from the Czech Republic, Tomas Berdych defeated Andrey Golubev from Kazakhstan in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-3 5-7 7-5. Tomas is playing in his very first tournament after the grass court Grand Slam event this season during the month of July where he ended as the runner up. In the final battle, Tomas was knocked down by the current number one player, Rafael Nadal at the All England Club.
Tomas did manage to beat Golubev at the grass court Grand Slam tournament as well however he was fully aware of the fact that it would not be easy to knock him down this time as Golubev had been working really hard on his game ever since his poor performance at the 2010 Wimbledon.
Tomas, after the match while commenting on Golubev’s form and game, said that, “he is really improving in all the aspects of the game over the last few weeks”, said Tomas.
"He grabbed his very first ATP championship title in Hamburg during the previous month and this proves that he has the ability to win the big ones as well”.
