The Legg Mason Tennis Classic 2010 Preview
With the Legg Mason tennis Classic championship just around the corner, let us discuss some of the prospects from the bottom half of the main draw:
The American tennis ace, Andy Roddick leads the bottom half in Washington. But the million dollar question is, will the three times winner and two times runners-up Andy Roddick replicate his match winning performance in Washington or is he going to shatter the expectations of his fans?
As far as Roddick’s 2010 performances are concerned, the American tennis ace has so far met a mixture of defeats as well as victories. He started off the year with a bang, winning a total of two titles straight away in Miami as well as Brisbane. Moreover, the American also made his way into the finals of the hard court competition in Indian Wells along with the edition in San Jose.
However, the American contender couldn’t carry his momentum further into the major competitions and as a result departed from the French Open and Wimbledon quite early in the competition.
Talking about his performance at the Atlanta tennis tournament a few days ago, Roddick agreed that he did not play well. He not only struggled with his accuracy but his returns were unimpressive. Roddick was blown away in the first two sets in both the matches prior to winning those matches. After reaching the semifinal round, the American was outclassed by Mardy Fish in all departments of the game.
However, the American has managed to perform pretty well in Washington over the past few years and is likely to come out with a better performance on the 8th of August, 2010.
As far as the top quarter half is concerned, it includes the sixth seeded Sam Querrey, the fifteen seeded Mardy Fish, eleventh seeded Lleyton Hewitt as well as fourth seeded Marin Cilic. All of these players are capable of reaching the semifinal stage of the competition, keeping their current form in mind.
Fourth seed Cilic will be looking to play well after his early departure from Wimbledon this season. He successfully made his way into the semifinal match earlier this year at the Australian Open Championships. However, he could not perform up to the mark since then.
Sam Querrey on the other hand has always struggled to come out with good performances in bigger tournaments. However, as far as the hard surfaces are concerned, he still remains the top contender to make his way into the semifinals of the U.S. Open. Experts predict that Hewitt is not feeling well as a result of his hip injury which is why Sam stands a strong chance in the tournament.
Talking about Mardy Fish, the man will appear in Washington on a two championship success streak. In spite of the fact that Mardy Fish has not proved to be a top class player, but his forehand can play an important role during his clashes in Washington.
Over all, the players in the bottom half of the main draws are more unpredictable than the top one’s. Therefore, anything can happen in the next couple of weeks. However, the most likely prospect from the bottom half is undoubtedly Andy Roddick who is expected to play well in Washington.
Tennis experts believe that the final six players in the tournament will definitely feature Andy Roddick. His performances at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic will definitely play a major part in the upcoming United States Open championship.
