The Legg Mason Tennis Classic 2010: Tomas Berdych knocks down Dmitry Tursunov
The professional Czech top seeded player Tomas Berdych fought hard till the end to win his opening match against Dmitry Tursunov 7-6 (7/2), 4-6, 6-1 on Wednesday in the Legg Mason tennis Classic tournament. Tomas was playing in his very first match after the grass court Grand Slam final where he was knocked down by the current top ranked Rafael Nadal.
The number nine tennis ace, Tomas Berdych smashed a total of sixteen aces throughout his match. However, he connected on just forty eight percent of first serves over a time period of two hours and seventeen minutes versus his 514th ranked Russian opponent whose first victory of the season came on Monday.
"I faced difficulties as far as my serving aspect is concerned probably because I was playing after a break”, Berdych commented. "It's all about feeling the rhythm while playing on the court. I took a break after the 2010 Wimbledon for a period of four weeks. And so it will take time to get back my rhythm. However, the good news is that I am back on the court and playing matches and soon I will get back in form as well”, Tomas added.
Berdych, who thrashed out Roger Federer at the grass court Grand Slam tournament and the Scot, Andy Murray at Roland Garros on his way to the clay court Grand Slam French Open semi finals, had not felt any sort of pressure being one of the hot favourite players until this hard court competition.
"It is a great test for me”, said Tomas. "There is so much pressure as all the players are all set to defeat you so you have to come up and fight really hard till the end as they have nothing to lose as you are the top seeded player”, he added.
In another match, the tennis player from Argentina, David Nalbandian reached the third round of the tournament in Washington after getting the better of Swiss tennis ace, Stanislas Wawrinka in a two setter clash. The final match score was 6-1, 6-3. Nalbandian is a former third ranked tennis player who dropped down in rankings after his hamstring injury
"I played pretty well, just committed one or two mistakes, much better than my last match”, Nalbandian while commenting on his performance after the match said. "I am feeling confident at the moment and all set to on the court against any top ranked player”, he added.
"I'm physically fit, although not hundred percent but still I can win the matches for me beyond any doubt. It is great that I am feeling good and enjoying my game”, said Nalbandian.
The Argentinean tennis ace David Nalbandian, who was also a runner up at the grass court Grand Slam tournament back in 2002, assisted his team in reaching the semi final round of the Davis Cup competition during the month of July this year.
Nalbandian, will meet Marco Chiudinelli in his next match of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic tennis tournament in Washington. While commenting on his next match, Nalbandian said, “Every single match is different in its own way," Nalbandian said. “And it’s always a close match whenever the two of us play against each other which is good”, he added.
In another match, the Serbian tennis ace Janko Tipsarevic fired a total of sixteen aces to knock down the American tennis ace, Sam Querrey with a final match score of 7-6 (7/3), 6-3.
"I am glad the way I played throughout the match, my serve, movement as well as returns were definitely better than Sam and so I am happy that I finished of the match in just two sets”, Tipsarevic said after the match.
Tipsarevic will meet Colombian tennis player Alejandro Falla in his next match in Washington Classic.
