The Lion King introduction with the monkey and Simba??

In the introduction of the Lion King where the song 'the circle of life' is playing what ceremony is happening to Simba by the monkey?? Is it like a baptism or something?? I just wanted to know as im doing an essay on it.... i know its probably rare that someone would know this but if you do could you let me know that would be great =] thanks

Rafiki (the monkey guy) annoints Simba and presents the new heir to the throne. It's kind of like a ceremony to bring the prince into the family.

i think their just showing simba and like the new prince and king and stuff ;)

i think the monkey is just showing the animals who their new prince is, im not really sure
