Ok so until last week I had no clue what the h**l the Lisbon treaty was about, all I knew was that there were a few posters around the place saying 'vote yes to the lisbon treaty, its good for Ireland etc etc.' No1 has explained what it is!! So I did a bit of research and as some of you may or may not agree in my opinion it doesnt seem to be the best thing for us.

Here are some interesting facts Im sure a lot of people didnt know.

#Lisbon gives the EU the right to overrule irish law and the Irish Constitution.

#irish people lose the right to veto or stop an EU decision to end the low tax rates.

#Lisbon means we lose control over immigration.

#Under the Lisbon treaty Ireland loses opwer in Europe.

#The Lisbon treaty gives the Eu courts the right to decide our values. (marriage, adoption, raising children, the right to strike, rules of evidence in court)

#Lisbon gives the EU the right to levy taxes.

#Lisbon gives the EU the constitutional form of a Federal State.

  1. I knew about the losing power part. if it going ahead has so many bad things why does alot of ordinary people in other countries want Ireland to vote yes. are they from France, Germany, Netherlands, UK - the bigger countries that will have alot of power, you know when they say jump we have to say how high.

after reading your list I don't like the lisbon treaty. it's going to be like one big country. I hope everyone votes no. you hear about alot of the yes campaigns, all the advertisements in papers and that, why is there none of that from a no side. how can they overule our laws, that's a load of ****.

  2. Im voting no!

  3. Im going to vote no. I dont think its much different from the EU Constitutional Treaty that was already rejected. They pretty much just gave it a new name and hoped we'd all accept it.

  4. I'm voting no. This isn't the europe we signed up for. It's ridiculous to give up our Sovereignty.

I've read all the facts and details - all the changes. I just don't understand why all the government parties are for it

I mean is it because they're embarassed to have to say, "Sorry Ms. Merkel... but we're not for this." This is blatantly bad for us.

    They're parading a yes without giving a valid reason. It's mind-blowing.

  5. Sure we're just a small cog in a big wheel who've been thriving on EU funds for years. It's time to give a little bit back to Uncle EU. Vote yes.

  6. Thank you very much for explaining the Lisbon Treaty to me. Its about time someone on Yahoo explained it so everyone can understand it. Thanks again.

  7. when sinn fein tell me to vote yes I usually make sure to do the exact opposite.

    It's a no from me!

thanks for the extra info though.
