I just got finished watching Return of The King, right and I wanna know, where did Frodo go at the end? Why did he want to leave? Why did he have to go? Even though that was the end, was he staying where ever he went for good? or was he coming back?

  1. Frodo left with Bilbo and the elves to go to the Grey Havens (he said that himself when Sam asked where he was going) which is a place far out into the sea west of Middle Earth. Quite simply, he left to find peace in another place, as he was unable to return to his former life. He says at the end, "How do you pick up the threads of on old life when you know in your heart there is no going back?" He had gone through far too much to live the way he had before. And of course, he stayed there for good. It says so in the appendixes of The Return of the King, which you should read to know the full story of what happened to all of the characters in the book.

As for Sam, he wanted to go with Frodo, but Frodo asked him not to, saying that, although he could probably follow him some day, there was still much for him in Middle Earth and he should stay for now. However, it says again in the appendixes that he did in fact one day leave to meet Frodo in the Grey Havens many years later when his wife Rosie died.

So, I guess all ended as it should, really.

    I hope I helped.

  2. Frodo was never coming back. Both bearing the ring and the stab wound he received from the wraith had changed him. In a wa he was no longer pure enough to stay in the shire. Sam couldn't go because he had a wife and kids.

  3. No way there will be another LOTR movie, except maybe in 100 years when they decide to remake ours. The Hobbit is announced, though, I'm excited for that.

Frodo went to Valinor/Grey Havens. It's a Middle Earth version of Heaven. Basically only important characters/elves can go. The rest go to sleep until the end of the world, or in humans' case, to the "halls of their fathers" according to Tolkien, at the end of Middle Earth, all races are reunited.

Sam did go, when he was 96.

Legolas stayed after the last 'official' ship left, but built his own and sailed there. It is said that Gimli went with him.

    LuthienT

  4. He went to Valinor, which is also known as The Undying Lands. I'm not sure (it's been awhile), but I believe he left because after his journey he would never be able to stay in the Shire. And yes, he was staying for good. It's kind of like Heaven.

If you want more in-depth information about Valinor, you can look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valinor

EDIT: Sam did end up going, years later :)

Another Edit: Not unless they completely disregard the books, which I doubt Christopher Tolkien would let them do. The Hobbit is more likely :)

  5.   Return of the King was on TV last night so I just got to watch it again. Frodo went to the lands in the West. If you've read the hobbit, after hobbits go on adventures they aren't accepted by the shire community, who thinks that adventures are wierd. Also, after going on an adventure, there is nothing to do with the simple life in the Shire. He probably is staying there for good. Sam didn't go because he had a family and he liked the simplicity of the shire. You can figure that out by how Sam always talked about going home to the Shire and Frodo didn't even remember the Shire. No, there will not be another LOTR movie. Although J.R.R Tolkien did wright a lot of other books about middle earth.

  6. He goes into the west with his uncle to live with the elves.

  7. Oh man, you're gonna get so many answers to this, and mine will be one of them.

    Where does Frodo go?

He goes 'into the west' to the place where the Elves are going. It's sort of a Tirnanog/Avalon/Valhalla kind of place. The way I understand it, people used to be able to sail to it, but when Iluvatar (God) took the elves out of the world, he wrapped the edges so we just sail in circles now and don't get to this magical western isle.

Why did he want to leave?

He was world weary. He has a chance for some kind of peace where the elves are going. It's kinda like heaven.

Why did he have to go?

He didn't *have* to go, but he didn't see a need to stay and the elves weren't going to run ships back and forth forever. He was running out of time to take a ship to this place.

    Is he coming back?

    No.
