The Los Angeles Clippers react to beating one of the best teams in the league
On paper, the game looked like a blowout in the making, featuring one of the best teams in the league against the worst. Going into the game, the Los Angeles Clippers were 1-13 while the
New Orleans Hornets were tied with the San Antonio Spurs for the best record in the league at 11-1. The Clippers were desperate for any win but that the improbable 99-95 victory on Monday 22 November came against one of the NBA’s best made it that much more
special.
"We won this game against a good team, so that makes it even better," said Eric Gordon, who had 27 points in the win. “It
was a much-needed win. When you get on a losing streak like that, you’re trying to find a way to win and it’s good against a team like New Orleans.”
In terms of defence, the Hornets are ranked number-one in the league in points allowed, at 91.1 points per game. The Clippers, on the other hand, allow 105.7 points per game, ranking them
26th in the 30-team league in this department. The Clippers entered the game on a nine-game losing streak while the Hornets’ came in with only one loss on the season, suffered at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks. The win was as improbable as they come.
Blake Griffin, who led his team with 24 points and 13 rebounds, said the win is an indication that any team can beat any other team in this league. “On any given night, you can beat any
team. We have the talent. It’s just a matter of going out and executing our game plan."
Griffin, averaging 18.9 points and 11.0 rebounds per game this season, said his team can't get too high on this win. “It means a lot but again, it’s just one game and we got to continue
to get better. We can’t rest on this. We got a lot more games to play.”
