In times of economic hardship when mere survival is difficult for ordinary people, such as now, do people buy MORE of these as their desperation increases or do they buy LESS of them to try and save an extra pound or two each week?

  1. I haven't bought one in years but as far as I know my parents are in the same habit of buying two or three a week over the internet

so I would say it has stayed the same

  2. I don't think it makes much difference.  People mainly buy them if they can afford to, but in times of economic hardship they might hope even more earnestly to win.

  3. BUY SOME OCCASIONALLY. THE FIRST TIME MY DAD ONE IT WAS THE NEON 9'S I WON 54 DOLLARS.

  4. I don't buy them and never have  Whe you feel the urge to buy one take the money you would have spent and put it in the piggy bank or the real bank. You will end up with much more money than you would have if you bought the ticket. A few years ago I had a very dear friend who was absolutely certain that she was going to win on those things. She took 200 pounds out of the bank and then had friends all over the country buying them for her. She figured this way she would

beat the odds and get a winner. She won a whole big 15 pounds. What a waste!!

  5. There are many ways to explain this.

From what I have seen, rich people and I mean rich tend to stay away as they see it as a money wasting scam. Some do buy as it can be seen as another form of entertainment or gambling.

Some people are in serious debt and it can cause them depression. However to say the least, they still chew up money to buy a few tickets.

Some buy just to see if they have any hope in winning. Interpret this anyway you want but I personally play the lottery once a week and I have seen large winnings.

I just play it for the sake of not going into bet on football or something. Its a quick one line gamble on a pound. Win or lose.... don't matter as long as you have no money issues.

  6. I've been told I've got more chance of being murdered than winning the lottery, so I keep my money in my pocket.

  7. Lottery cards are a tax on stupidity. The dumber you are the more you spend.

  8. Less as after a while people realise just how astronomic the odds are against winning.  When the UK lottery first started the Saturday 1st prize hovered around the 12m mark. Then they added a Wednesday one and at first its first prize hovered around 6m. The prize fund has been steadily dropping as people realise they are just throwing their money away. Saturdays 1st prize was under 4m, last Wednesdays under 2m.  There was/is a small book published where the author collected masses' of odds together. Most people know the one about you being 7 times more likely to be killed by Lightning than you are of winning the lottery, the book had thousands of different variations. Even the CEO of Camelot stupidly said in public once, dont dream about winning millions, you will be very lucky to win a tenner!
