The Lyoness Open: The Spotlight on Austria
This has been a very successful season for the European Tour. The Tour went from Ireland to France to Scotland and of course after that it headed towards UK for the prestigious major event, the British Championship Open 2012.
Now it is time for another prestigious event. The time for Open at Austria is here. This year’s event is going to be the 2012 Lyoness Open powered by Greenfinity.
The venue for this prestigious event is the Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrug, Austria, 35km west of Vienna. The four-day event tees off on the 25th of July and ends on the 28th of July. The best players of the sport are going to once
again gather to fight for glory.
The last Open in Austria was in the year 2011 and it was won by English professional golfer Kenneth Ferrie.
In last year’s Open, after four rounds Kenneth Ferrie and Simon Wakefield were tied and both had a score of twelve-under par. As a result, both the players headed for the playoffs and in the end, Ferrie came out victorious.
This year Ferrie will be looking to repeat what happened in last year’s Open. He will hope to defend his title against the biggest names in the world of golf.
Another player who is in great form is Thorbjorn Olesen. He has shown great promise in the last week’s British Championship Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course.
He had magnificent rounds of 69, 66, 71 and 74 in the four-day event. His final score was par and finished tied on the ninth spot, with nine other players.
Despite the fact that the 22-year-old has very little experience and has played in only one major tournament, he still is thought to be one of the top contenders for the tournament at Atzenbrugg.
Pablo Larrazabal is another top contender for the title. He has played some good golf in the last few tournaments. He has successfully made his last 16 cuts. This year the Spanish professional golfer would be looking to bag the title for the Austrian Open.
This is going to be a very tough Open for the players. The question is who will win the tournament. Only time will tell.
