The Magic Bishop and Political Paddy to collide in the Simpsons Malt 150th Anniversary Handicap Chase at Kelso
Kelso will become home for the Class 3 Simpsons Malt 150th Anniversary Handicap Chase over three miles and a furlong on Wednesday, 2nd May. Participating in the £6,498 purse race is a line-up of eleven runners who are five-year and
older.
The most accomplished entry when it comes to racing at Kelso that also during the new season is The Magic Bishop, Bishop Of Cashel’s seven-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Magic Bloom. His three seasonal attempts were at Wetherby, Kelso and Market Rasen.
The best ranking that he got credited against his name was through the race at Kelso. The Magic Bishop secured the second position in the D.G. Pryde Ltd Novices’ Handicap Chase on 24th March over two miles and six and a half furlong.
The 10/11 favourite of the race, Super Ally, led the final ten lengths of the track while riding with Timmy Murphy. The Magic Bishop was paired up with Harry Haynes.
Settling third behind the winner was Soul Bid.
Another note worthy entry who is fairly experienced at Kelso is Political Paddy, Vitus’ ten-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Political Mill. He has been racing at Kelso pretty regularly throughout his racing career and during the current season he has already
raced there twice.
His third start of the season was in the Bet Totepool Text Tote To 89660 Handicap Hurdle on 3rd March at Kelso over two miles and six and a half furlong. The race was won by the 6/4 favourite of the race, Sundown Trail, who was riding with A.
P. McCoy.
Four Fiddlers settled as the runner up while Highrate strode on to the third place after the winner.
Political Paddy was brought down and thus could not continue racing.
His next attempt at Kelso was in the John Rowe’s Last Racecourse 60th Handicap Hurdle on 24th March over two miles and six and a half furlong. Scotswell won the race, stationing Easement into the second slot.
Pyjama Game parked third and was soon followed by Political Paddy.
He has been active six times during the new season which makes the race today his seventh venture and third attempt at Kelso.
The Magic Bishop and Political Paddy are bound to give each other a hard time at the race.
