  1. You are absolutely, 100%, correct, and I agree with you in all respects.  Hunting and killing whales in this day and age is completely ridiculous.  There is NO need for it. EVERYTHING we needed from whales in the past, can be obtained today in other, more reasonable ways.

The Japanese and other Asian cultures MUST be made to realize that there are far better food sources than  killing one of the most intelligent animals on the planet.  Unfortunately for many precious, and endangered animals, the Asian culture is steeped in superstition, to the point that they "still" believe that Rhino Horn, or Tiger penises, or Whale parts, or Bat wings, or dead dried up lizards, etc, have magical properties that will make them well, or virile.  This is the 21st century people, let's wake up and smell the roses and "realize" that there is NO magic in animal parts.

  2. Any whale killing at all,  anywhere bothers me....

part of what I do is provide whale watching for tourists on Maui, and over time I have realized just how magnificent these animals are . It is talked about some here on Maui but not enough is done anywhere to stop the killing of Whales

  3. Whaling is a big industry.  Whales provide food, and many other products.   As long as there is money to be made, many will choose to exploit it.

It is sad.   And you're right.  Many people don't care.

  4. They should have a very limited hunting season on whales. and wolves, and grizzley's

  5. well, you seem to care; and that could send a loud message to everyone.. the only way to solve international conflicts peacefully is thru the UN.. if UN wont do anything.. they must know that they are not 'in-order' to act against the japanese.

  6. I wish I had a submarine so I could hunt the whaling ships.

  7. what people dont understand is that hunting and eating whale is part of their culture. of course they arent going to stop just to please everybody else. who stops doing something they enjoy, something they r used to, something that is apart of their life, just to please those around them? nobody, thats who. i personally believe people should just leave it alone. this has happened before with all mega fauna species. they r just too slow and easy to hunt so of course they r gonna be the first pick to hunt. it happens in the wild as well, the hunter picks out the slowest, oldest, sickest, youngest to kill first. and in this world, we r the hunters....the japanese r the hunters and why would the find a replacement for whale when it is so easy to find?

i say just get used to it, there is a lot of other species that r being hunted to death, being killed by population expansion, being killed by pollution. are we gonna say stop having kids? no because that is part of human culture. r we gonna tell people to stop building houses? no because living in a house is part of human culture. r we gonna stop burning fossil fuels for energy? no because that is a part of human culture. its apart of life and if the japanese dont wipe out the whales then global climate change will (the natural effect)

  8. The irony of human development is that it allows us to annihilate not only relevant life forms but...ourselves.

There is no excuse for modern man to extinct an entire species, especially one of our distant ancestors.

I am not suggesting that humans evolved from whales but both species had a common ancestor at some distant point in earth's past.

Whaling should have ceased in the 17th century.

  9. Under the guise of whale research the slaughter continues. Only nongovernmental organizations like Greenpeace and the Sea Shepard Society appear to be doing anything. Much of the hunting is being done in protected waters. So much for protection.
