The Masters 2012: Cantlay top amateur
Patrick Cantlay has tied for the 47th position, at the Masters Tournament, played at the Augusta National Golf Club.
The 20-year-old amateur golf player displayed an amazing performance in the final round, but his inconsistent score took him down on the leaderboard position. He has faced many ups and downs in Georgia.
He started the tournament on Thursday and scored a 1-under 71. He was successful in scoring four birdies, but also made 3 bogeys.
On Friday, he played poorly. He was able to score two birdies but he registered eight bogeys as well. He displayed a mediocre performance and added +6 to the leaderboard scores.
He somehow improved his skills and scored three birdies, but again five bogeys took him down. He again added an over-par score of +2.
He enjoyed his second best round on Sunday. He was able to score five birdies and two outstanding eagles. He was about to improve his position on the leaderboard, but due to one quadruple, one double and three other bogeys, he finished on the 47th.
"There was an up-and-down round out there," Cantlay said "I had a bunch of highs and lows but 72 is not too bad. It's just really bad considering how well I've played. I played really well today".
Last year, he won many awards and honours, and was the hottest amateur golfer in 2011. The top-ranked amateur did not finish well, but he is confident to win the upcoming titles.
“I do feel like I can win this week,” Cantlay said. “I feel like any tournament I tee it up in, if I play well, I have a chance to win”.
He added, “Golf is just golf, no matter whether you are playing the Long Beach City Amateur or the Masters. Either way it’s still get the ball in the hole as fast as you can”.
He is a proud amateur player, who played the first major of the year and competed well for the title. Three amateurs Hideki Matsuyama, Kelly Kraft and Cantlay made the cut. Cantlay was the best among the rest of the players.
Cantlay is giving his best this year and it is highly possible that he will win. He can turn professional soon and start his career with leading tournaments.
