  1. It's 2012 and actually, the Mayan calendar doesn't state that the date is the end of the world.  Many people just assumed this because it ends there and people have a morbid fascination for guessing when the world will end.

The calendar just starts over.  It isn't as glamorous as poles shifting and the end of the world, but that's what will happen.

  2. It's 2012. Their calender ends in 2012. That doesn't mean it's the end of the world.

  3. If you want to learn about the subject without having to sort through a lot of anonymous answers by strangers, about whom you know nothing, including whether they know anything, there's a way to learn.

The reading list below can act as a source for you. Most of the titles can be found in your local library. If they don't have them they can borrow them from another library.

  4. The Maya never stated that the world is going to end in 2012.  That is something new age morons made up because the Maya calender ends that year.  It has NOTHING to do with the end of the world.  The truth is that as the Maya moved from the classic to the post classic period, thus entering into their decline, they stopped using the calender.  The last day on the Maya calender has more to do with the civilizational changes the Maya were going through and less with what modern idiots, who have done no empircal research on Maya, claim to as the end of the world.

  5. The Mayans based their predictions on their calendar.  Asking contemporary people to prove a prediction from an ancient culture is beside the point.  Actually asking for "proof" of any hypothesis is illogical.

Scientists make predictions all the time based on the information they have.  People understand that and only reversionists insist that  a hypothesis be "proven."  A hypothesis is something that a scientist works with.

If we didn't have hypotheses we would not have gotten very far.  Hypotheses create interest in finding out about things, about whether they are true. One has to approach ideas with an open mind.

The weather man predicts the weather each day, based on satellite imagery.  People don't ask them to prove it.

The Mayans based their predictions on their scientific knowledge.

They didn't say the Earth would end exactly.  They predicted certain parts of the western coast of North America would be destroyed, like Atlantis was destroyed, by Earth quakes.

The Mayan scientists understood a lot about geology and astronomy.

  7. I don't know about the world ending, but the prophecies say something dramatic is going to happen.  And yes I believe it.  With the way humans are going, we are going to cause something to happen ourselves.  And it's not just the Mayans, It's Nostradamus and a few others that have predicted these events.

Many of us are aware of the Mayan calendar but not many people truly understand what it means and how it works. Yes the calendar does end on December 21, 2012, but what does that mean? How does it come to that? What is their calendar based off of?

The Mayans had a very precise understanding of our solar system's cycles and believed that these cycles coincided with our spiritual and collective consciousness. The most significant of which has much to do with the 2012 prophecies. In the following writing, we will walk through the main details of their prophecies surrounding the 2012 transition. How the transition takes place (from an astronomical perspective), what it means for us, and when the cycles take place. We'll start with the basic prophecies and later move deeper into the explanation of the cycles.
