  1. Two different civilizations in two different eras on time.

Both rose and fall in Mexico's territory

  2. The Mayan civilization had been around for a really long time and its and slowly cam to and end around 1000 AD... At that time, a few hundred miles north, the Aztec empire had just started to be the powerful nation that they were.. by the 1500's when the spanish came... they had a really hard time defeating the Aztecs... they lost the first major battles.... and the Mayans? well even though their civilization came to a halt around 1000 AD, they had as much military power as the Aztecs did.

So both of them were probably the most trained/ skilled/ experienced in warfare in the Americas

When it came to trade, they both were very fond of trading in long distances with other tribes or nations. Inner city trade was big in all major cities.

When it came to religion, they both believed in the same Gods (althought they had different names at times) .. They both sacrificed humans for their Gods.. They both built temples / pyramids for their Gods.

These were 2 very wealthy nations and those who werent part of them feared /disliked them.

The Aztecs lived in a desert valley next to a lake.. the had a lot of gold and silver...

The Mayans lived in the jungles of present day Mexico and used shells n stuff or coastal things. that is what they valued the most.

A lot of their social practices were the same... they both had slaves, the commoners and the nobility... their lives mainly revolved around their religion. They Aztec calendar was influenced by the Mayan calendar.. i think they're pretty much the same in all aspects... looks, day count, n everything on there.

eventually both fell to the spanish... just like other nations or tribes did...

but neither the Aztecs or the Mayans are gone... there are still full blooded Mayans living in the Yucatan peninsula... There are still many full blooded Aztecs living all over Mexico...

Both the Aztecs and Mayans helped shape the Mexican culture along with Spanish traits. Foods like posole and tacos we got from the Aztecs... words like coyote come from the Nahualt (aztec) language  ....

    other cool facts...

    Mexico's population is

    30% full blood indian

    60% mestizo (spanish indian)

    9% castilian (white, spanish, european)

    1% other

so i guess it would be safe to say that the Aztec and Mayan  blood is found within 90% (or 60% if u take other tribes into) of Mexicans
