Neither of them predicted anything for 2011 or 2012, really. This prediction is based upon ignorance. The Mayans are not here to explain their calendar to anyone, so no one knows when its many cycles begin or end. The precise figure of 12/21/12 is only based upon a wild guess, and it is illogical to give anything precise as that when one is only guessing. I bet some people $1000 apiece that the world will not end in 2012. Do you want to bet against me? The I Ching says nothing about such things. I wish someone would do some research, instead of spreading this absurd nonsense.

The Mayan calendar is built on cycles.

They merely stated that this particular calendar cycle ends on December 21, 2012. Whether that means the end of the world is up to you
