  2. No, their civilization no longer exists.  There are still some people with Mayan ancestry, but the Mayans as a people/culture are no longer around today.

They are best remembered for how simply they lived but yet how advanced their civilization was and how that contrasted to their beliefs: they had many grotesque rituals of blood letting that don't seem to fit such a people of intelligence.

  3. The term Mayas refers to a group of peoples that mainly inhabited the present day Yucatan peninsula, and the highlands of Chiapas and Guatemala, though there are Mayan remains in Honduras and a Mayan speaking people still present today in northern Veracruz.

They built high stone cities in very wide areas (called pyramids by us) and a very complex system of roads (called sacbes by them). They were fairly advanced astronomers able to predict eclipses and also developed a 365 day calendar system and the concept of zero before European countries.

Historic Mayas peaked somewhere between 200 and 1000 a. C. though they can be traced as far as 1000 b C. and are still living in the same areas (the fact that they don't build pyramids now doesn't mean they are a different people).
