The McGladrey Classic 2010 begins with a tough line-up
The McGladrey Classic is one special event that has made its way into the PGA Tour. Considering the current economic conditions, there aren’t many events that have been added to the PGA family but the McGladrey Classic is one exception. The official PGA
Tour event will begin from the 6th of October and will continue till the 10th. The event is hosting the top eight major winners and will take place in one of the top 100 ranked courses of the world.
The event will be played at the Seaside Course at the Sea Island Resort which was built in 1929. The golf course was designed by Charles Alison and Harry Colt which was later modified by Tom Fazio. This golf club is the second course to have been built at
Sea Island after the first golf club built by Walter Travis. This golf club was later remodelled by Rees Jones.
The McGladrey Classic will be entertaining a number of world class golfers this fall. It will serve as a crucial opportunity for those players who have been struggling on the money list – with $4 million at stake, it is sure to bring out the best in every
golfer. The fall series contains five tournaments in total and the McGladrey Classic is scheduled to be the second event of the tour. This event thereby is a gold mine of survival for those who are lagging behind in the money index.
Moreover, players like Matt Kuchar and Zach Johnson will also be appearing at the tournament. Kuchar, who although didn’t perform that well at the Ryder Cup, still has many fans who will bet on him for the McGladrey Classic. The 37-year-old was defeated
by Ian Poulter on Monday at the Celtic Manor in Wales. Other than the disrupted Ryder Cup ending for him, Kuchar has had a good 2010.
Then we have Johnson who was also seen returning weary from the Ryder Cup where his performances were just satisfactory. In the three matches against Padraig Harrington, this 34-year-old secured two points to support his American team. He achieved victory
in Texas and hasn’t missed a single cut this season. He has had a solid game in 2010 and is expected to continue his form.
The field will also welcome Bill Haas and Robert Allenby who have had completely different performances for this year. Haas is the winner of the opening event of the fall series. His victory in Mississippi was the second for him in this season. He stands
at number 64 in world rankings and will be bringing his best to the fall series.
While Haas appeared in top form, Robert Allenby has been the subject of illness and injuries in the earlier season. His unfitness led to a decrease in his momentum formed at the beginning of the spell. The basic reason why Allenby has been considered is
because of his play at the last two events of the PGA Tour. Allenby is reported to do well-enough at the last two rounds of the PGA Tour.
The holder of the third place at the Viking Classic 2010, Brendon de Jonge is also a threat to many players appearing at the McGladrey Classic. He has somehow managed to grab defeat instead of winning this season. The McGladrey Classic offers him a good
chance to change that statistic.
A toxic Australian line-up will also be appearing at the Seaside course. The list includes names like last minute entry Jarrod Lyle, Cameron Percy, Mathew Goggin, Aron Price and Marc Leishman.
Other than those who are eligible to play, there are several other players who still need to do something special to attain entry in the PGA Tour in 2011.
