"Comfort Zone"  Let me explain.  Humans by nature go into a set pattern of things this is something we all do without realizing it from the moment we could move.  Because of the media's nearly omnipresent status across the globe its far easier for humans to believe them then find out the truth for themselves.  This ease of acquiring information causes us to fall into a comfort zone which as time goes by we have a very hard time breaking out of.

they should research deeper and make sure they are facts.

The "Media" has an inflated opinion of themselves and their power. When one outlet comes out with a story, they all pick up on it, regardless of whether there is any proof or not. That makes people think that it is true, because they see it reprinted or told in so many different places. Ignore them, and do your own research.

I do not "believe" the media.  I use them as a source of news, choosing which outlets I use carefully.  I think critically about the information presented there, understanding that the news will be slanted based on the perspective of the person writing it.  To be in touch with what is going on around the world we must be in touch with the media, but we must be able to think critically about what we read, watch and hear.

i don't know if they out and out lie but i can tell you they stretch the truth...i was in a hurricane in 1969 and got interviewed because of it....they did such a hatchet job on it..it didn't sound like the same story i told....but we are somewhat to blame because nice stories do not sell papers etc

they do lie, they give half truth, so i do my own research and see what i can find out.
