The Mercator Projection, which you read about, is a popular map for plotting courses. What one characteristic of this projection remains true or undistorted no matter where you are on a map of this type?

  1. At the equator. The closer you get to the poles the more distorted it gets. Look at Greenland...it's actually only 1/9 the area of South America.
