The Meydan racecourse, beyond any other sporting destination

With some of the oldest, most facilitated and prestigious race courses in the home country of the horse racing sport, the United Kingdom, nothing can beat what the Vice President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Makhtoum, visualised to pay tribute
to his most beloved passion, he gave birth to the idea of the Meydan race course. The site became operational on 27th March, 2010.
The one-mile long grand stand accommodates 60,000 spectators. Catering to the ones with true and unrelenting compassion for the sport, a horse racing museum and gallery are also fascinating attractions.
For the leisure and entertainment of those who visit the race course when the Dubai World Cup season is off, there is a nine-hole golf course.
One of the most amazing features of the spectacle is the cantilevered Crescent Roof that has curved solar and titanium panels to facilitate the building’s energy consumption efficiency.
With the world-class race tracks, it became the home for the world’s first five-star trackside hotel. Even when in the hotel, there is an unhindered view of all the race tracks.
With the facility of car park of up to 8,600 cars, the venue has an IMAX Theatre and the Meydan Marina. It is the largest screen in the Middle East and Asia, and has played many films since it opened in 2012.
The Maydan Racecourse has a 2,400 metre left-handed turf race course and a same handed Tapeta synthetic dirt course over 1,750 metres. It stages the richest race of the sport in the Carnival that begins in November and stretches on to March.
The highlight is the Dubai World Cup Night which features the US$26.25 million Dubai World Cup.
The most exciting element about the commencement of the racecourse was the 18th Dubai World Cup that was held on 30th March. The highly lucrative prize money of the race attracted horses from around the globe.
The race course has surpassed the horizons of any global sporting destination, and will stage the Dubai World Cup Carnival for a second time now in November, 2012.
The world’s richest race was won by the Godolphin owned, Monterosso, during the previous carnival.
