The Midnight Club tipped to win at Clonmel
The Midnight Club is tipped to win the Clonmel Festival Week Chase in Ireland on Thursday, January 2, 2012. He will have to battle four other runners in the race in order to win the event.
The 11-year-old horse is currently preparing for the Grand National Chase at Aintree on Saturday, April 14, 2012. He was the favourite to win this event last year, but was unable to make a big impression, finishing sixth.
Willie Mullins, trainer of The Midnight Club, is confident that his horse will be able to come up on top at Clonmel.
According to Mullins, “The Midnight Club found Tramore a bit tight and sharp for him although he was staying on at the finish. Clonmel is quite similar to Tramore and the trip is a furlong shorter than last time, but it doesn't look as good a race
so we're hoping for a good run.”
The Midnight Club has entered 10 chase races in his career up till now, and has been victorious in two of them. He has also finished runner up once whereas ended up being third on three occasions.
Another one of Mullins’ trained horses, Cooldine, will also be taking part in the Clonmel Festival Week Chase. He has been out of touch for the past few races and might not be able to make an impression.
Mullins admitted that his horse was struggling for form, and might continue his struggle in today’s chase. However, he was hoping that the 10-year-old could bounce back by performing well in the chase.
The veteran trainer added, “Cooldine appears to have lost his form. We're just hoping he might do better this time but he just isn't the horse he was. If he fails to win before the end of the season he will probably go hunter chasing next season.”
Cooldine has got a decent record in chase races and he certainly has the potential to pull off a surprise. He has managed to win three steeplechase races out of 14 starts. Other than that, he has ended up being the runner up on two occasions whereas
finished third on the same number of times.
