The Mirena Coil. Anyone had any experience, good or bad?

I've been having 'period problems' (very heavy, spotting between periods, irregular then regular) and other assorted problems (low abdominal pain, vaginal pains, low back pains, IBS type symptoms). I've had a huge number of tests (colonoscopy with biopsies, endometrial biopsies, blood tests, intra-vaginal scan) and am going back to hospital next week for a hysteroscopy. The tests are coming back with only minor problems. The Gynae Consultant has suggested trying out a Mirena coil, just to see if this might help. I think I'll try it, but do any of you have any experience, either of the symptoms, or the Mirena Coil?

Many Thanks in advance,

And to the member who keeps posting an answer to anything remotely 'gynae' related; I HAVEN'T got 'bacterial vaginosis'.

  1. I have two friends of about your age (one is 39 and one is 42) and they have both had Mirena coils fitted, following all sorts of horrible symptoms - similar to the ones you are experiencing.  Both friends say that having the Mirena coil fitted was the best thing they have ever done.  Both are right as rain again.  The only thing that they have mentioned which might be worth considering is that it can be uncomfortable during the insertion, however it is possible to have it inserted under a light general anaesthetic.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

  2. if you are on birth control then those are side effect that usually occur.
