The Miz defeats No. 1 Ranked NXT Rookie Michael McGillicutty
The Miz has been throwing around his weight and has been berating different rookies (apart from his own, Alex Riley). The Miz is the current United States Champion and also holds a contract from the Money in the Bank Ladder Match which guarantees him a title match against the WWE Champion up to one full year. Although The Miz heavily criticizes all rookies on NXT, his main two targets are Kofi Kingston’s rookie, Michael McGillicutty (whom he called a ‘mediocre’ NXT Rookie despite a perfect record) and the ‘World’s Strongest Man’ Mark Henry’s rookie, Lucky Cannon.
Both of these rookies desperately wanted to settle the score with The Miz and give him a beating of a lifetime. Both rookies engaged in a heated argument as they failed to agree on the person who would fight The Miz. That was the point when the Intercontinental Champion, Kofi Kingston, decided that both rookies should face off against each other and the winner would get the chance to face The Miz in a one on one singles wrestling match.
Both wrestlers knew that it would be huge news if they could get the chance to face The Miz, and it would help them become famous in the wrestling world. Both rookies fought for a chance of a lifetime as their pros stood in their corners and gave them instructions and wrestling tips during the match. However, at the end it was the unbeaten rookie, the son of Mr. Perfect, No. 1 ranked Michael McGillicutty, who defeated No. 5 ranked Lucky Cannon after delivering a swinging neck breaker, improving his unbeaten record to 6-0.
Michael McGillicutty was now ready for the big fight as he squared off against The Miz in the ring. The Miz had the advantage in the ring as he was fresh and Michael McGillicutty had just fought a tough and gruelling match against Lucky Cannon. But Michael McGillicutty then proved to the world why he is the toughest rookie in NXT, as he grabbed The Miz from his waist, picked him high in the air and slammed him on the ring floor. The Miz replied by delivering an elbow kick to Michael McGillicutty’s jaw. The Miz again attacked Michael McGillicutty’s jaw as he delivered his knee to create a huge impact. The crowd still cheered for Michael McGillicutty as he was fighting his second match in less than 15 minutes.
The Miz then did a baseball slide and threw Michael McGillicutty outside the ring. The Miz then went for the cover to end the match but Michael McGillicutty kicked out before the final three count. Michael McGillicutty indeed proved that he never backs down even in the worst of circumstances. Michael McGillicutty then shifted the momentum of the match as he started punching and kicking every part of The Miz’s body. Everyone was astonished by the show of strength by this young rookie. Michael McGillicutty then grabbed The Miz and delivered a belly to belly Suplex. The momentum had suddenly shifted in favour the young rookie.
But then it all ended as The Miz grabbed Michael McGillicutty by his shoulders and delivered the Skull Crushing Finale. During this move, The Miz bangs his opponent’s head hard on the ring floor. The Miz quickly went for the cover and the referee counted to three with both shoulders of Michael McGillicutty touching the ring floor.
The Miz cheered with his rookie Alex Riley and Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston stepped in the ring to pick up his battered rookie. The unbeaten winning streak of Michael McGillicutty finally came to an end but the crowd still cheered for him, because he had shown great in ring fighting ability and the desire to face some of the best in the world.
It was an important win for The Miz, as he lost to Randy Orton on last Monday Night RAW and is looking for some momentum before the big summer wrestling party of SummerSlam.
