The Montreal Canadiens defeat the Florida Panthers 4-0 – NHL Recap

The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Florida Panthers 4-0 at the Bank Atlantic on Thursday. The Canadiens were hoping for a win to extend their lead over the seventh placed New York Rangers, as the Panthers were looking to close the gap on the Carolina Hurricanes
in the National Hockey League standings.
The game was evenly matched between the two teams, as they fired almost an equal number of shots on goal during the course of the game. The Canadiens were the more productive of the two teams during the night, as they dominated the game and took the victory
4-0. Carey Price, goal-keeper of the Canadiens, was named the Star of the Game, as had 30 saves during the course of the game.
The Canadiens made a great start to the game both offensively and defensively, as they put pressure on the opposing team’s defence in the early stages, while their defence cut down attacks regularly.
The away-side managed to score in the sixth minute through Hal Gill from a powerful strike to get into the lead. The Panthers came up with a little resistance after the goal, but they were unable to find the back of the net. The Canadiens got better with
the passage of time and it was Andrei Kostitsyn who scored through a powerful strike in the 9th minute to double their lead.
It looked as if the Canadiens would score more goals, but they decided to go against this and preferred to sit back and enjoy possession. The Panthers piled up a few shots, but no goals were scored as the period ended with the Canadiens leading 2-0, as the
teams went into the break. The period saw the Canadiens making 6 goal attempts, as the Panthers managed 8 shots on goal.
The second period started off with the Panthers hoping to score, as they went on the attack. It was the Canadiens who dominated the productivity department once again and scored through David Desharnais from a splendid back-hand shot in the fifth minute.
The Panthers continued to attack in their search for a goal, but were unable to find the back of the net. The Canadiens also came up with some brilliant pieces of play, but they could not score, as the period ended with the Canadiens leading 3-0 at the end
of the period. During the course of the period, the Canadiens made 15 goal attempts, as the Panthers managed 12 shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play saw both teams pretty much even in terms of goal attempts, as both made 10 goal attempts each during the course of the period.
The Canadiens sealed the game with a goal in the fourth minute, scored by Lars Eller from a decent back-hand shot. The period provided both teams with a few more scoring chances, but there were no further goals.
The period and the game ended with the Canadiens winning the game 4-0 in the end.
