They are the new wave ..They are being fueled by 6 cents of electricity to recharge.This is what we are being told.Is this accurate?. Are we going to start building nuclear plants for the electric cars coming? We cannot build more Coal plants..I have a hard time breathing now when i go outside

California is putting about 1600 megawatts of solar power online.  In addition, if you look at the Pickens Plan, you'll see that T. Boone Pickens is advocating wind power which is completely pollution free.

However, the "long tailpipe" fallacy, though oft-repeated, simply isn't correct.  Check out the web sites in the reference and you'll see very reasoned discussions of how we're able to support electric vehicle recharging (which is going to happen at night anyway, using off-peak electricity.)

Here's a great quote from the study:  

"It should be noted that with the emergence of PHEVs, [plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, or vehicles that recharge off the grid]  the emission sources will shift from millions of individual vehicles to a few hundred generation facilities. All urban emissions are expected to significantly improve. The economics for emission-reduction and carbon-sequestration technologies may look much more attractive when installed at central power plants rather than in motor vehicles, especially when the costs are spread over longer operating periods and billions of additional kilowatt hours."
