  1. The NHL isn't in trouble, however they may have made a mistake in trying to market the wrong player.

Is there video of Z killing off the 5 on 3?

    I missed the 2nd and 3rd...FFFFFFKKKKK

1 guy does not make the team and one guy doesn't represent the NHL!

  2. I remember in Detroit, the big collective "WHO???" when Devellano picked Yzerman.

No pressure on him, though, because all of the attention was on Mario Lemieux. Yzerman was finally recognized as an elite during the Mario/Gretzky days in the late 1980s.

My fear for Crosby as a person is he'll have a Ryan Leaf type collapse under all of the intense pressure. The league has many other stars to showcase. The NBA didn't make it all Michael Jordan all the time. They wisely used him as a center-point to show there were guys like Shaq, Barkley, David Robinson and others in the league. Hakeem Alajuwon was showcased when the Rockets were winning the title.

The NBA has gone international, too, and isn't shy about touting Mtumbo, Ming, Ginobli and Gasol.

  3. yeah, that was sorta pathetic last night. when you're a good player and somebody make an amazing play, whatever it is, you give credit to them. what zetterberg did to him yesterday was outstanding killing the 1:26 5-3. that saved the game for the red wings. and all sid the kid could say was 'yeah that was fine' or whatever? he does need to grow up in that respect if he wants to be a great and valued player sometime.

and also, he needs to step up. he's their captian, and with possibly one game left for them, he needs to pick up his game and do something for his team. thats his job. i know hes young, but he knew what the responsibilties were when he took up captian.

and by the way, where on earth is malkin? i didnt even remeber him being in mellon arena last night. hm, what a superstar.

  4. I'm Canadian, and I know that Crosby is Canadian but I CAN'T STAND HIM! I think that he is such a showoff and he makes things worse then they are. Pittsburgh is so overrated and I can't wait until the Red Wings win the cup and show who the best team is in the NHL. Go back to the Arctic Penguins, that's where you belong.

  5. all you players who say Sid is over rated go s***w yourself He been the best player in every league he's played in is that but a guy who has busted NHL records in his first 3 years of playing and if Datsuyk really has talent and not crosby why has Datsuyk nerev won a flipp'n scoring title sure he wins the Selke and another trophy for the least penalty minuets why can't he beat sid he didn't beat malkin and ovechkin why can't a guy with more talent than sid beat him in a scoring title  if he has more talent he should be able to get more points Datsuyk is a great player with probably the 2nd best hands in the NHL no one can beat Kovalev but he is not better than Sid

  6. The last time I believed the hype about ANY athlete was when Eric Lindros was with the Oshawa Generals.

I won't be making that mistake again.

From now on, I'll wait until a player is retired before deciding how great they were.

  7. Everything bodanggles15 said. They still have another game to play, you know? Get over your Sidney Crosby complex already.

  8. People should stop making fun of Sidney Crosby cause Ovenkin was diving all over the place in the playoff series against The Flyers so just shut up about him being a baby if you were in the Stanly cup being the captain at age 20 you would be diving and he barley dives

  9. im sick of crosby questions good and bad im not even gonna bother

  10. Even though I'm a die-hard Wings fan I'm going to play devil's advocate for just a moment.   Sid is good, but he isn't the only player who is the future of the NHL.   There are so many other guys out there who give their all and don't get recognized.

If you look at just about every team, you can find at least one player who might be the "next big thing".  As for Sid and his crybaby attitude, I'm attesting it to his age and the fact that he's only 20 years old and is under a massive amount of pressure right now.  At this point, he's in an impossible situation because it's highly doubtful that the Pens will sweep the next 3 games against the Wings, especially when the Wings defense is on point and Osgood is playing phenomenally well in goal.

The main problem with Crosby though is that they're marketing him too much and outside of the Pens fans, it's overkill and he's going to end up crashing and burning before he can get a chance to mature and prove that he has what it takes. I have no doubt in my mind that sooner or later he'll get his chance to hoist the Stanley Cup, just not this year.

  11. Malkin, Hossa, umm Sid isnt even the only future of the Pens

he has a future but he may not be the future of the league

Kane (last years #1 pick), Ovechkin

    just some more

  12. if they were s much better than him, then you would see their name everywhere not him. He IS the future of the NHL like it or not. He gives credit to those who deserves it. He isn't going to praise the players that don't help out and neither should he.

Have you ever see him cry? Whine? yes. Cry? No

EDIT: Look at the numbers people. How can the NHL choose the wrong player to make the hype about Randy C? He seemed to be ok the first two seasons and no one had a problem until he made it this far in the playoffs. However, when you said one player doesn't make a team or the NHL, I agree. Of course it doesn't so I don't know what you are trying to prove. He didn't get to the finals by himself. He has a team.

  13. crosby is super overrated. people should pay more attention to players like datsyuk who really have talent. im surprised ovechkin doesnt get as much publicity as crosby. i think hes better

  14. 1st overall pick

    6th in league scoring rookie year 39g 63a = 102pts

Youngest player to win art ross 36g 84a = 120pts

Youngest player to win a scoring title in any sport

Youngest to win Hart trophy (MVP)

7th player in history to win the Hart, Art Ross, and Lester B Pearson

1st rookie to have 100pts and 100PIMS in a year

    Youngest to reach 200pts

Led his Junior hockey team to a national final

    294pts in 213 games

yah hes definatly overrated (hence sarcasim).... stop being jealous and acknowledge that hes one of the best in the game today.

what do you expect Crosby to say " yah that zetterberg is great eh, he is just too good for us, we might as well stop now and save us the travel" get your heads out your a$$ and think. Both teams are in a war, no need to give them praise in the middle of the series. Yah im sure everyone in the league knows how good Zetter did of a job on the 5-3. What more do you guys want.

Crosby did step it up. He single handely won game 3 for the pens and assited on the pens 1st goal in game 4. Hes doing his part, wheres the supporting cast? Malkin? Sykora? Malone? Staal?

lets not forget when Cleary shot the broken stick at crosby in the corner, real good move for his team, go back to the press box you watch... I dont understand how people are mad at crosby for being pissed. His team lost, and is in the Stanley Cup finals, hes showing his emotion, no one wants to lose a game, espically when its a final game. They work from September to June, they should show emotion, shows that he cares about winning.

  15. The NHL is not on trouble, the biggest problem with Crosby is the MEDIA!  They are so quick to anoint him the next "Great one" that they are giving him any time to develop.  He is a great player and he is going to get better, but people have got to quite expecting him to be perfect,  He has reacted to the final better than most guys his age, but he is not perfect.  He will learn how to handle himself as he gains more experience.  Also the mistake the league and the media is making is putting too muck importance on "star power", this is not the NBA, one player cant dominate.  Even if a team only uses 3 lines they "star is still only on the ice a third of the time.  Hockey is a team sport, and the league and the media should remember that.

  16. im suprised they even around go to Canada its there sport

  17. 3 Words: Stamkos next year

  18. Sid is NOT the answer...........Zetterberg, Franzen and Lidstrom along with Osgood are the answer! He is too hot headed and immature. If he doesn't learn to settle down and lead like he should, he sets a bad example for his team. I lipread the F bomb last night.  Never underestimate older players and what Fran did last night was amazing. He had the skill and presence of mind to redirect the puck at  the last second before the Penguins could score another goal. He was their quickly...thank God. Crosby was very dirty after breaking his stick, getting another one and hitting the broken stick right in front of one of the Red Wings while he was on the move. Shame on him as that was flagrant. Is this his example of leading his team? Wow.....I'd take Yzerman back anyday if he didn't retire and Lidstrom is one great man and was compared to Bobby Orr! He was humbled and honored as he should be. Go Wings on home ice on Monday night! can't wait!! Don't say the NHL is in big trouble because you are upset about your team.

  19. Good point, but it's not the be all, end all of why the league is in trouble. It's the total change of the game that Bettman and the owners have made in recent years. They may own the franchises, but they don't own hockey.
