The Nelson Cruz agenda a prime concern for the Detroit Tigers in American League Championship Series
If there is one man who is hot with the bat in this year’s American League Championship Series, it is Nelson Cruz. The hard hitting outfielder has come up with extra inning homers in two different games and he is currently leading the charts with the most homers and RBIs in the competition. The Detroit Tigers are at a loss for words against the hitter and they are trying to figure out what will mum the Texas Rangers star in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The club was open to suggestions on Friday, October 14.
"If anybody on this call has any suggestions," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said, "I'll be willing to take it. He's a threat."
The hitter may not look very threatening with a 6 – for – 18 record against the Detroit Tigers in the current series but his batting average of .333 leaves out the simple fact that he has hit five of those shots out of the park. One was a walk-off grand slam in Game 2 and the other was a three- run homer in the eleventh inning of Game 4.
If the Rangers are depending on anyone to hit well against the Tigers, at the moment, it has to be Nelson Cruz.
"The biggest thing is you can't fear him," Game 6 ball thrower Max Scherzer said. "No matter how good he is, you can't be afraid to attack the zone. That's kind of why good hitters impose their will on you, force you out of the zone. I've found that when you face hitters that are that dangerous, you have to go right back after them and have that type of mentality, because otherwise they can get you."
Scherzer knows exactly how it feels to be on the receiving end of the Cruz hit. He gave up a homer against the player in Game 2 during the seventh inning. Ryan Perry gave up a grand slam in the same game at the end.
