The New York Knicks consider venue change for next home game
The New York Knicks are considering the Prudential Center, home to the New Jersey Nets, as a possible venue for their next home game against the Washington Wizards on Friday 5 November,
according to a recent report in the Newark Star-Ledger.
The Knicks’ game against the Orlando Magic on Tuesday 2 November was postponed because of concerns that harmful asbestos was released in Madison Square Garden during a recent cleaning
process. But an anonymous NBA official does not think changing venues will be necessary as the asbestos problem is expected to be solved “very soon.”
"They believe they can get this cleaned up by Wednesday, and they won't have to move any games," said the official, according to the newspaper. "But if it gets on past Thursday, the Knicks
said they'll get back to the people in Newark."
The NHL’s New Jersey Devils are scheduled to play a game against the New York Rangers on Friday night and are unwilling to reschedule the game to accommodate the Knicks, according to another
anonymous source from the Star-Ledger. But a scenario where the Knicks play during the day, leaving the evening free for the Devils, is being considered.
The Prudential Center is already involved with a basketball team out of New York, just not the Knicks. The WNBA’s New York Liberty will play their games at the Prudential Center this summer
while MSG will close for renovations. And the home of the Nets and the Devils is willing to help out the Knicks any way they can.
"Because we have a great working relationship with them, with what we've done with the Liberty, we've got tons of respect for them," said Prudential Center spokesman Bob Sommer. "And we
will help them in whatever way we can."
The new-look Knicks, who added Amar’e Stoudemire and Raymond Felton to their lineup over the summer, are 1-2 on the season.
After losing their first 18 games of the season last year, the Nets are 2-1 so far.
