The New York Knicks lose fifth straight game of the season 104-96 to the Houston Rockets
The New York Knicks faced the fifth straight defeat of this season from the Houston Rockets 104-96 this Sunday. The New York Knicks could not satisfy their home audience and left them there to cry as they lost the match on their
home ground at the Madison Centre, New York. There was a large audience: around 19763 disgruntled and heartbroken fans booed while the Knicks went back home with their heads bent in yet another defeat.
While the New York Knicks kept gasping for air, the Houston Rockets took another leap out of the deep pit they were in. As the Rockets left the Knicks poisoned with a defeat they slowly leaped ahead in a better form.
It was hard for the Rockets to gulp down the fact that Yao Ming will have to go on another restriction after a year of being absent already. The key player was on an absence due to a foot injury and now faces another restriction
to play due to a sprained left ankle. Brooks was also not there but still the Rockets, who were already accustomed to absence of their key players, made it.
Players that were in hot form
Among the players who were the heartthrobs of the game were Kevin Martin, who scored 28 points, and Luis Scola, who took away 24 points for the Rockets and kept the Rockets in their flight. Courtney Lee scored 12 points for the
Rockets and enjoyed stealing the ball out of the hands of the Knicks continuously. The Knicks are quite scared of the Rockets as they were knocked out for the 13th time out of the 15 meetings they had with the Rockets. Although the game starters
(Yao Ming and Aaron Brooks) from the Rockets were not there, the Rockets still
managed to defeat them. It makes us wonder what would have happened if the 7 feet 6 tall Yao Ming was also there.
Things were not the same from the start, though, as the Knicks were at the lead with 27-26, all thanks to Amar’e Stoudemire’s 12 points that he scored on 6 of 8 shooting, but things were never the same after the Rockets settled
in after the 2nd quarter. They were already leading the Knicks after Martin scored 10 points that lead the Rockets to a 58-52 halftime lead.
Quotable Quotes
"I don't understand why we're not playing with the urgency. I don't understand that...It's not something I'm used to," said a very disappointed Stoudemire.
Amar’e Stoudemire scored 25 points for the Knicks, Wilson Chandler scored 17 and Raymond Felton made 15. The Knicks were already under the shock that Kevin Love had handed them with his 31-31 on their Friday’s loss from the Minnesota
Timberwolves. It was the same memory that scared them and they missed eight shots in the final period that turned the game down on them.
Thanksgiving has never been a very successful period for the Knicks (3-7). With the same déjà-vu they will now enter Denver on Tuesday where they will play four games. Let’s see if they make this Thanksgiving a little special for
their fans.
The roar of boos kept getting louder and louder as Ish Smith made a jumper that gave the Rockets their lead at 84-75. The Rockets kept burning their fuel for good as Courtney Lee made a three-pointer that flashed them past the
Knicks to 89-75. After that, the Knicks could only wave at the Rockets in the sky. Scola made a jumper that gave them a lead by nine straight points that shamed the free throw made by Stoudemire and Danilo Gallinari (Knicks). This jumper proved even more fateful
for the Rockets and gave them a 19 point lead over the Knicks, who were already tumbling.
The Knicks stood steady for a while when Landry Field made a follow dunk at 5:39 remaining. The lead changed 13 times and the game was tied 10 times.
Coming Up
The Knicks will play against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday, Sacramento on Friday, and Golden State on Friday. The Rockets will play against Chicago on Tuesday, Oklahoma City on Wednesday and Toronto on Friday.
