The New York Knicks win their fourth-straight with victory over the Charlotte Bobcats
The New York Knicks (7-8) won their fourth-straight game with a 110-107 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats (5-9) on Tuesday 23 November at Madison Square Garden in New York City. For the
Bobcats, it was their second loss in their last three games while the Knicks, who haven’t won more than 33 games in any of their past six seasons, are enjoying their longest winning streak since December 2009.
Amar’e Stoudemire, leading his team in points and rebounds so far this season, finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots while Raymond Felton, playing against his
former team, recorded 16 points and nine assists. Danilo Gallinari, a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line, finished with 15 points and six rebounds while Landry Fields chipped in with 14 points and seven boards. Toney Douglas, 5-for-7 from three-point
range, led all Knicks bench players with 22 points while starting centre Ronny Turiaf went 6-for-6 from the field to finish with 12 points. Even though Stoudemire and Felton put up decent numbers, they shot a collective 10-for-25 from the field and had a combined
11 turnovers.
Point guard D.J. Augustin led Charlotte with 24 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and four steals while Gerald Wallace contributed 20 points and eight rebounds. Stephen Jackson struggled
with his shot (7-for-22) but finished with 18 points and six boards while Boris Diaw chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds. Derrick Brown and Shaun Livingston had 12 and 11 points respectively off the bench.
The Knicks built an early lead at home, winning the first two quarters to take a 60-49 lead into the break. A bucket late in the third quarter by Turiaf gave the Knicks a 16-point lead,
their biggest of the game, and New York entered the final frame up 89-75.
But the Bobcats made this one interesting, going on a 9-0 run to begin the final quarter and when Wallace scored midway through the period, the Bobcats had trimmed the lead to 91-89. With
his team down nine points with under five minutes remaining, Jackson converted two three-pointers and a dunk to pull them within one point with 18 seconds remaining. But Felton made a pair of free throws and the Bobcats couldn’t get a good shot out of the
timeout, clinching the win for the Knicks.
What they said
The Knicks have now won four straight after dropping six straight contests. Stoudemire, who called out his team during their losing streak for a perceived lack of urgency, told reporters
he likes what he's seen recently. "It's great, it lets you know we're getting our confidence, especially down the stretch. So we've just got to continue to keep that confidence high."
Augustin liked his team’s play in the fourth quarter but he said it should've been there from the beginning. "We just started playing harder [in the fourth]. We've got to do that at the
beginning of the game. If we played harder, it would have never gotten to that point. We should've fought harder."
