Anyone agree that the Yankees have a good chance at playoffs?

That is the question.

They are on a 4 game WIN STREAK.

They are 4.5 games from first place. And they're closing in on Boston for the Wild Card.

They have all it takes I hope they make it to the World Series. I want your opinion on this?

Anyone agree?

  1. The Yankees always find a way to sneak in much to my dismay...

  2. Nah

If we Rays go down, We're taking everyone down with us

  3. Looking at past history I would say this is very likely. However our Offense isn't as potent as it was in the last few years due to injuries. If we are going to make any kind of run the offense has to pick it up.

What's different about this season is that our bullpen used to be one of the weakest points of the club and now it's one of our strengths. Now they just need to improve the back end of the rotation and maybe Carl Pavano(yes his coming back barring any setbacks LOL) or Phil Hughes will fill that spot in late august.

Maybe Cashman gets another bat which is unlikely since they will probably ask for too much for the elite bats.

In closing, If they can piece together that back end of the rotation and replace rasner and ponson with more adequate guys than maybe they could overcome the loss on offensive production from Mastui and Posada.

Look at the teams on top, They have problems as well. The Redsox are having a bit of trouble scoring runs lately since Ellibury is struggling mighty and they miss David Ortiz. The Bullpen is a disaster, some guys aren't producing to the level of output of last year. The starting rotation for them looks fine.

The Devil Rays have a great starting rotation however they aren't that great offensively and they should be trading for another right handed bat to make some improvement in that area. I still want to see their bullpen hold up for the rest of the season since most of these guys are pitching above their previous performances of last year.

EDIT: Last Year the Yankees at this point were 7.0 games back of the division leader and 6.0 games back of the Wild Card Leader...

They had an easier schedule last year but this year they don't

  4. I'm sorry, but anyone who says they don't have a chance is a hater. I usually don't reach for that card, but in this case, I feel justified saying so. How is 4.5 games back on July 22 give them "no chance?" Give me a break. If they were 10 games out, then you might convince me. In this case, you saying no chance is more about you HOPING they'll miss out rather than looking at things factually.

The Yankees pitching has been better lately, led by Mussina and Pettitte, the offense is finally starting to wake up and the relief corps has been solid. Plus, A-Rod is the defending AL MVP and even if he's had some yips in the past, he's still a force to be reckoned with. Now, I'm not saying it based on these four games, but this team knows how to get to October. (Winning then is another matter.)

This Yankees team is far from done and I think they have an excellent chance of getting to the playoffs. Let's see if the Rays can handle the heat of playing in August and September and let's see if the Sox still have that killer instinct in September to put the Yankees away.

Don't be shocked if the Yankees are playing baseball as one of the eight playoff participants this October.

  5. The Yankess have always been a better second half club.

Expect them to win the division.Alot of ball left.

  6. Hold on Skippy, The Yankees are in a 4 game win Streak and have been better in the Second half, i just think they need to Stay Consistent in Hitting , their Pitching has been better than their Hitting [ that's weird] , but it they can continue to pitch and score enough runs they will make the playoffs

and the WS - that's a whole other season

  7. nope. no way. not a chance. not happening.

  8. they wont make it

  9. Everyone that says they don't have a chance must not remember last season. The Yankees were further back last year and the only major difference from last year to this is no Roger Clemens. I see them being either first in the wild card or first in the division in 2-3 weeks.

The Rays are falling and falling hard. So they have a huge chance! As long as the Sox keep losing!

  10. no but they'll make a run for the money

rays will choke i never had a huge trust in the rays i know they wont stay on top, they'll fall apart.

i think the yankees and redsox will have a huge battle in september but by the last week the red sox will pull away

the wild card is a possibility but i think the twins or white sox will be taking it

  11. do i agree that they have a good chance? absolutely not, im positive that the yankees will DEFINATELY  make the playoffs =)

  12. yep! both boston and tampa arent looking too hot as of late. yanks are playing rather well. there pitching has been coming through. if they keep the offense that they had tonight up they have a great chance. they just swepth the a's and boston just got swepth by laa and tampa is having its struggles. yankees beat twins tonight. everything is gloing their way!

  13. No way!

  14. THERE IS NO WAY IN h**l THE YANKEES CAN MAKE IT!

    1. there pitching is terrible

2.A-Rod blows it in the clutch

3.it will be the red sox in first in the A.L. east and the rays with the wild card. sox are hot to buddy and they have young players with experience. lethal combo. ( oh yea DAVID ORTIZ is coming back)

  15. not a chance.

  16. Tigers will demolish them like they did tonight to the Kansas City Royals (19-4)

  17. h**l Yea I was at the game and their bats are on fire!!! 12 to 4 baby!!! 3 Home Runs!!!

  18. yeah i think they can make it

  19. i was reading this article on foxsports.com or espn.com and they were saying that it would be difficult for them to jump both the rays and the sox...the reason for this is because both the top teams are good and chasing two really good teams is going to be hard...it they do make the playoffs then they will have to win the wildcard

  20. yeah, i agree. but johnny damon is back as of yesterday, but now jorge is on the dl. they can make it, 4.5 isnt that far back

  21. Why is this always so debated?

The Yankees have a history of playing better in the second half. The Yankees have a history of sneaking in when they're written off.

A four game win streak doesn't mean much. Keep it in perspective. A win is a win, and they're nice and necessary, but don't get into that whole "streak" idea. Just because they have a "4 game WIN STREAK" doesn't mean they won't have a losing streak.

In fact, it pretty much guarantees it. Winning is followed by losing. Always. Especially after a streak.

A winning streak also doesn't mean that they'll have an easy ride to the playoffs. The rest of their schedule isn't easy. There are quite a few games against the Angels, Red Sox, Rays, White Sox, and Twins. And don't think that division rivals like the Blue Jays will go lying down.

The truth of the matter is this: the Yankees will compete. For the AL East. The Yankees always play for the division. Every few years, they fall a bit short and have to pick up the WC, and that's okay.

But playing for the division is how they guarantee a spot in October.

It will not be an easy road. They have to battle out injuries (Matsui is out for the season, Posada's probably out for the season, don't count on Damon staying healthy) and pray that their pitching will return and will pitch well upon return.

But do the Yankees have a chance at play-offs?

When a team is only 4.5 games back in the division and it's not even August, there is definitely a chance. Especially if that team is the New York Yankees.

This shouldn't even be a debate anymore.

  22. ha, no. they don't, & it doesn't matter if they have a 4 game winning streak, I don't think they have what it take for play offs. & about the cubs & white sox, what do you mean who cares about first place?? you should, the cubs are doing amazing, they're probably making it to the world series

  23. The Rays are a tough team to beat this season.

I am a Yankee fan and I certainly do think the yanks have a shot at being in the playoffs but i wouldn't say it is guaranteed as of yet. It's only the middle of July, anything can happen.

But I would love to see the Yanks make it to the postseason whether they win the world series or not.
