The New York Yankees falter as the Red Sox batter them 8 – 4 (Part 2)

The Boston Red Sox were hosting the New York Yankees for their season finale encounter in Fenway Park. In front of a crowd of 37,453 fans, the match was played. The game brought two bitter rivals together for their last fixture
in the league, before the post season began. The hosts who were ranked 3rd in the league met the 2009 World Series champions for the 3rd time in the series. With the games won on equal scale, Sunday’s match marked the final deciding bout
in Major League Baseball.
The game started with the Yankees going behind the Red Sox and at the end of the top 2nd inning, the hosts were up 2 – 1. John Lackey was pitching for Boston while Dustin Moseley started for New York on the mound.
Boston remained quiet in the bottom 2nd and Dustin Moseley did well to quell their charge. The score line was 2 Red Sox – 1 New York and the game was taking a wild turn on the progression. With a title on stake, Yankees
manager, Joe Girardi had most of his players in good shape for the encounter. The team was pumped up and John Lackey had his hands full.
The Yankees did not waste time to get back on the score sheet again. Only this time Mark Teixeira was the orchestrator for the equalizer. The top 3rd started with Brett Gardner grounding out to second. Derek Jeter followed
Brett with a strike out. Teixeira made it to the second base after right fielder Jonathan Drew made an error. That would prove costly as Alex Rodriguez came in to smash a hard single towards the centre. Mark had all the time to pull free and he did so with
a run towards home.
The game had been tied and the roster calmed themselves throughout the next two innings, making no running bids in the duration. The silence took a long time to break and it was the Red Sox who spear headed the resilient comeback
in the bottom 5th.
Daniel Nava and Lars Anderson were the first two batters to go onto the diamond and come back to the Boston dugout. With 2 hitters out, E Patterson came in for the third spot. He was walked by Moseley and that brought up a similar
situation from the bottom 1st. Jed Lowrie was on the batting bag and Patterson was on the first. Dustin was punished again, as Jed smashed a 390 feet long home run, to the right. The hit was good enough to put the side 4 – 2 up and pressurize the
visitors for the second time.
New York remained quiet for the top 6th inning and that is when signs of tiring appeared. Boston wasted no time to take advantage of the situation. Royce Ring replaced Dustin Moseley and David Oritz wasted no time to
connect as he bunted a single to the third. Josh Reddick replaced the big man on the first base and later moved on to second when David Robertson wild pitched Bill Hall. Hall didn’t take long to move up to the first base after he was walked. Ryan Kalish came
in next and he made the securing single to the centre to get Reddick through for a run.
Boston was up 5 – 2 on the score board and the bottom 6th inning was far from over. Hall, who was on second, stole third and subsequently Kalish followed with a second base steal. Nava was intentionally walked and Girardi
couldn’t stomach the strategy well. He replaced Robertson with Boone Logan, but that just made matters worse for New York. Lars Anderson walked onto the plate and his sacrifice fly to the right allowed Hall to score. When things looked manageable again, Kalish
stole home to make it 7 – 2 for the hosts.
