The New York Yankees falter as the Red Sox batter them 8 – 4 (Pt. 5 Final)
The New York Yankees walked out of Fenway Park, losing the last match of the season to the hosts, Boston Red Sox. The encounter marked the last time both teams went out on to the field to play in the 2010 Major League Baseball season. The two ball clubs
were locked in a 3 game series and the result was a deciding factor for the American League East title. The Yanks were on the pursuit for the gold but they fell behind considerably as they lost the fixture against their bitter rivals.
The Boston Red Sox established themselves in their home field as one of the most dominating sides in the American League. Owing much of their wins in the recent fixtures to their pride, the side must be feeling wary of its ultimate results in the season.
For a club that has been marred with injury problems, many players were out there on the field to prove themselves. Jed Lowrie has been a product of the dire situation that has poisoned the team. His impressive performance has come up as inspirational to say
the least. Only time will tell how the up and coming star functions with his fellow team members.
The Yankees on the other hand, will be disappointed by their result against their rivals. When they went into the series against Boston, it was expected that the side would earn the win to topple the Tampa Bay Rays off the top position but that was not to
be the case, given their unimpressive performance in front of the supporters. The side was leading the run to playoffs when the encounter with the Red Sox took precedence in the league. But by the time Sunday’s match ended, it was the Rays who triumphed against
the Giant Yanks.
The loss to the Red Sox means that the Yankees will be making their way to the post season against the Minnesota Twins, who won their bid for the playoffs in the middle of September. The two teams are scheduled to play on October 6th. With not
much time left till the start of the fixture, a few players should be highlighted here for their influence that may make the difference for New York in the campaign for the World Series. Joe Girardi had a few words to offer during the post match interview
and his main focus was on the bid for the biggest title in baseball. He said, “In New York, you're expected to make the playoffs, but it's only Step 1. We all know what the goal is. The goal is not to win the division. The goal is to win the whole thing."
New York Yankees
Carsten Charles Sabathia: The top pitcher for the New York Yankees has been on the prowl off late. He finished his league performance with 21 wins in the season. The high tally on the throwers’ table makes him the leading top ranked
player in the competition. With a Cy Young award nomination, many players from various ball clubs believe that the big man is ready to grasp his next World Series title in the coming days.
The pitcher has lost just 7 times and when he will face the Twins on the Target Field, many supporters will expect him to cross his 2010’s 200 strike outs tally and lower his Earning Runs Average to 3 or lower from 3.18
Brett Gardner: Gardner has been shaping up to be a good player on the strike zone. His batting ability has been closely aligned with Curtis Granderson’s who has been doing well on the field for the team. In hindsight, there have
not been that many homers hit by the batter but his ability to score runs is something to be adored by the fans. There will be many expectations from the experienced man and with 97 runs scored in the season he will be the surprise package that will aid the
Yankees in their pursuit of the World Series.
