The New York Yankees with their bullpen edge – MLB News
As the 2011 Major League Baseball draws to end, there is a tremendously frenetic effort by almost every team to do the desired. The New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies are locked in a seemingly tireless battle to win the World Series. However,
herein is another struggle that involves the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox.
For the American League Championship, the two teams are constantly endeavouring to make their way into an absolute attainment of victory. But as the formidable task of winning the World Series is something that requires brilliance, fortitude and patience, American
League Championship has been a bit of easy ride for the New York Yankees.
Thanks to the ever improving pitching, the Yankees have edged past their rivals, the Boston Red Sox, somehow. Add to it their bullpen which has unremittingly been at their best lately with the most fascinating presence of Mariano Rivera. The all-star relief
pitcher that is quietly approaching 600 career saves is an invaluable and inalienable part of the New York Yankees for over a decade now.
“The best ever. I keep saying the same thing over and over again, and it sounds repetitious every time I talk about Mo, but it's true," Jorge Posada recently said. "There's nobody [who's] ever going to get close to what he's been able to achieve, because
there's nobody better. It's just that simple."
“The best ever”. That is the irrefutable statement uttered for someone of Rivera’s calibre. If nothing else, when Rivera alone has achieved 599 wins for the New York Yankees, there are certainly more powerful additions in the in the form of best hitters
(like that of Jeter/Swisher/Rodriguez) and pitchers like CC Sabathia, Freddy Garcia and A. J. Burnett.
The Seattle Mariners’ manager was inarguably right when after his team lost to the New York Yankees, he said, "It was a good ballgame, we just came up a little bit short," said Seattle manager Eric Wedge. "Their bullpen did a great job, they've got a strong
bullpen over there, some great young arms, with great stuff, they really shut us down."
The Boston Red Sox were, until recently, putting up a sensational challenge to the New York Yankees where the two teams were fighting for the top spot in the AL Standings for the Eastern Division. However, the Yankees left behind the Red Sox with 88 wins,
while Boston stand at 85 wins compared to their rivals.
The Phillies now top the MLB ranking with 94 wins. It will be interesting to see which team succeeds to clinch the World Series given the increasingly competitive nature of the battle.
