The Nike 6.0 Air & Style to go off in Munich this Saturday
The Nike 6.0 Air & Style is all set to begin on the 12th of February in Munich, Germany. 16 professional snowboarders will be heading off to the Olympic Stadium this Saturday to go head-to-head in the last Big Air competition of this year’s Swatch TTR World
Tour season. Similar to the rest of the Air & Style events this season, this event will be 6Star as well. It is only natural to expect an intense battle where the snowboarders will be giving their 100 percent to snatch victory.
The significance of the upcoming Air & Style contest lies not only on a chance to take home a large part of the 75,000 Euros prize purse, or attain the desirable “Air and Style Ring of Glory”, but it also lies on the TTR world ranking points on offer. Five
of the current Top 10 snowboarders on the TTR World Tour Rankings are bracing to hit the huge straight jump at the Olympic Stadium this Saturday. The triumphant snowboarder will be adding a massive 1000 ranking points to his record. Though a celebrated accomplishment
at any time, these points have become even more crucial with the TTR season getting closer to its finale, the 6Star Burton US Open, which is going to be taking place next month, i.e. March.
The results of the Nike 6.0 Air & Style may prove to be a game changing one, considering the snowboarders would not be getting too many opportunities to add some serious TTR ranking points to their name after this. There is only one other 6Star event left
in this season, The Oakley Artic Challenge, a Slopestyle competition, which will be held in Norway on the 19th of February.
Finland’s Peetu Piiroinen will be taking part in the battle for the 1000 TTR Ranking points on offer in order to further secure himself at the top of the ranking table and make his way to a third consecutive Swatch TTR World Tour Champion title. The Finnish
is currently sitting at the top of the TTR Rankings with 876.66 points, the position he reclaimed after placing second in the Billabong Air and Style competition that was held in Tirol on the 5th of this month. However, the upcoming Air & Style will not be
a walk in the park for the world’s number 1, where he will be facing world’s number 4, Seppe Smiths from Belgium, and world’s number 5, Sebastien Toutant from Canada. Both the athletes have been enjoying a fairly good season. Smith is currently fourth on the
Rankings with a score of 783.55 whereas Toutant is just one place below him with 756.26.
Another challenger to look out for is America’s Sage Kostenburg, who recently made history by throwing the world’s first Cab double cork 1440 in last week’s Billabong Air and Style contest at Tirol.
We will not have to wait for long to see how the Swatch TTR World Tour unfolds this year. Even though Piiroinen is enjoying a comfortable lead at the moment, the upcoming Nike 6.0 Air will definitely play a significant role in the final results of the tour.
