The Nintendo 3DS continues to dominate in Japan, Xbox 360 still struggling
It has been seven days since we last looked at the Hardware Sales charts in Japan and it seems that nothing much has changed since then.
9. Nintendo DS Lite: the older model of Nintendo’s DS may be past its time, but it seems that some people in Japan still felt the urge to buy themselves the portable gaming device.
However, the figure itself is not a sight to behold as it reads a measly 71-units sold, which ironically is an improvement from the 52-units it managed to sell in the week before.
8. PlayStation 2: it may be out-of-date, but the console still seems to be offering something the gaming population in Japan want as another 1,280 units were sold in the past seven days.
In an odd coincidence that is a 71-unit decrease from its previous week’s sales which stood at 1,351 units sold.
7. Microsoft Xbox 360: Never a console of choice in the region, the Xbox 360 continues to sell in rather unimpressive amounts, managing to sell only 1,887 units.
Another bit of worrying news is the fact that the sales for the console have fallen by 524 units since its previous week.
6. DSi and 5. DSi LL: while they may not be the latest portable gaming device that Nintendo have to offer, the DSi and DSi LL are both selling well. It comes as no surprise seeing how both are in the maturity stage of their product lifecycle.
4. Nintendo Wii: THE console of choice for those who enjoy party games, the Nintendo Wii will go down as a legend in the gaming industry as a true innovation. To see it selling as well as it is, this far down the road is something the revolutionary
console deserves.
Selling 10,301 units in the week before, the Wii managed to boost its sales and its figures now rest at 12,161 units sold for the previous week.
One reason for the increase in sales may have to do with the release of Just Dance Wii, which has not been doing too badly on the video game sales charts itself, earning itself a runner’s up position.
3. PlayStation Portable: the excitement for the next generation of Sony’s portable gaming console, the PlayStation Vita, may be building but the PlayStation Portable seems to be holding its own as it sold another 25,271 units in the previous
week.
2. PlayStation 3: Sony’s current generation console is still up there in the top two, a position it has not left in recent weeks, but it seems that sales figures of 28,596 units sold were not enough for it to claim the number one spot.
1. Nintendo 3DS: it seems that the price cut and the re-launch of the portable gaming device with a second analogue stick is doing what Nintendo had hoped and boosted the sales for the once flailing console.
However, it now stands proud with 55,025 units sold in the previous week.
