The Nintendo 3DS continues to dominate the hardware sales charts in Japan
Nintendo may had have to reforecast their sales figures after a disastrous start for the Nintendo 3DS, yet it seems that after a huge price cut, the portable gaming device is starting to get back on track as it topped the hardware sales charts for another
week running.
Here is the Japanese hardware sales chart for the previous week:
9. DS Lite: posting the sales figures for the DS Lite may be something slightly embarrassing for Nintendo seeing how the previous generation of the DS managed to sell only 31 units, though that itself was an improvement from the previous
week’s sales figures which stood at 20-units sold.
8. DSi: it seems that the people of Japan choose the DSi over the DS Lite as 897-units of the former managed to change hands in the previous week.
7. PlayStation 2: it is a wonder that a piece of gaming technology which is over a decade old is managing to post a sales figure on the chart. Be it nostalgia or whatever other reason, 1,291 PlayStation 2s were sold in the previous week.
6. Xbox 360: Microsoft has found the Japanese market a tough place to do business, as more often than not it sells about the same as a PlayStation 2, which is much older than the current generation console.
However, this week saw a slight increase in sales of the 360 as it managed to sell 1,763-units as opposed to the 1,531-units it sold last year.
5. DSi LL: another DS takes its place in the charts as the DSi LL managed to outsell the 360 by a mere 50 units. The weekly sales figures stood at 1,813-units sold.
4. Nintendo Wii: with the next generation of Wii announced and rumours trickling their way into the media spotlight, one would have thought that the Wii would have become an antique by now, yet the console is still managing
3. PlayStation 3: after a brief stint in the top spot following its price drop, the PlayStation 3 has never fallen out of the top three spots and it continued staying in the top three after another week of impressive sales. The PlayStation
3 moved 40,085-units in the past week.
2. PlayStation Portable: despite the fact that the PlayStation Vita is less than a week away from releasing in Japan, the PlayStation Portable is still selling extremely well with 41,069-units sold recorded.
1. Nintendo 3DS: the 3DS is leagues ahead of the rest in terms of hardware sales in the region as the resurgent sales figures seem to know no limit. While the sales figure of 96,219-units may have fallen behind the week before’s sales figure
of 103,962-units, it still is more than double that of the PlayStation Portable.
